Independent Archers list

#1 Post by Luke » Thu Dec 17, 2009 12:55 pm

As you probably know recent events in WA have not been good for bowhunting or archery.

Letters received from the WA police minister stated that " the government is currently considering legislative changes in accordance with national agreements which would effectively prohibit the use of cross bows and bows for the killing of animals, whilst allowing those who are involved in the sport of archery to continue that activity."

It is now time to band together to meet this threat head on.

The peak archery bodies of Australia are in direct communication with the WA Minister in question and will be meeting with him very shortly.

To support this meeting we are trying to accurately determine how many archers there are in Australia. The ABA, AA, and 3DAAA already have their numbers sorted and ready to be taken to the negotiating table through their membership.

However there is a noted shortcoming in the data available as a lot of archers are not an official member of these organisations. It will be crucial to have as many supporters as we can to put to the ministers to show just how many people they will be affecting and just how many votes they may be losing. If ever there was a time to stand together, the time is now.

You can help out by reading the instructions and posting names below.

INSTRUCTIONS
Only post names of ARCHERS who are NOT ABA, 3DAA or AA members
Post the name of everyone you know who owns or uses a bow but please DO NOT add made up names - it is vital that we are as accurate as possible with our figures here.
Post only on one forum - we will cross check to avoid double ups but we want to minimize these.

Please do not include any comments - it makes collating the names much harder

Post as shown below

Firstname Lastname initial, Town, State
eg
Ben S, Townsville, Qld
Ben M, Alice Springs, NT

Cheers,
Luke

Luke,

a twist worth considering.

ALL the clubs, independents have sign on books.
At our club we run a come n try at the Ironfest at Lithgow. There over a thousand newbies from the general public sign on. Lots of clubs in AA run these and other beginners courses.
The business at SOPA run hundreds through each week. The sign on for all these is an AA except the SOPA business. The numbers should be totalled across Oz and added.

Luke, I have recently started a field archery club in North Tasmania, it is situated at the SSAA Bracknell gun club, we are a shooting disipline of the Club / SSAA, I am sure there are many SSAA gun members that have archery / hunting gear ( some at Bracknell have ) and use it, could the SSAA help us through these members ? or help us at all ? our numbers could also help them ! Maybe SSAA could implement an official Archery shooting disipline ?

Blake.D
BTW a recent article in the SSAA magazine featured a family that some also shot bows when out camping / hunting, not the family featured on 60 mins. just a thought.
cheers Peter.

Hi Luke

I applaud your efforts in this endeavour however IMHO whilst you are gathering data this may not be the best way to do it.

So before it gets to large may I suggest that you reconsider your data collection method so that the data ends ups in a form that makes it easy to extract information. (i.e. Input the data into a simple database directly.)
