Fox skins worth nothing.

#1 Post by tracker » Fri Jul 17, 2009 12:18 am

Just a headsup for anyone who hunts foxes and sells the skins. I had a long convo this arvo with the main buyer of fox skins on the east coast. He has NO plans to buy ANY skins this year as the last big international auction in Copenhagen was a major dud. The best blue skins were getting US$6. He reckons it is PETA that is stuffing it all up. Me and my mate have nearly 1000 skins and it looks like they will be going to the tip this year. :(

Mick

May I suggest you tan your skins and take them to a Medieval Festival. They were selling quite well on the weekend at the Abbey Medieval Festival.

Some had been turned into hats and I was tempted to buy one - centre section was tapestry and the rim was fur. Other had been made up into Davy Crockett caps - and were very popular with kids,

Not a bad way to at least get a return after all that work taking their birthday suits off......let alone putting up with the smell....memories....dad and my brother and I would always go out on a Saturday night and whistle up foxes. The really friendly people in the congregation moved out of the pews at church the next morning and let us take their seats...very quickly...funny that.

Love chasing foxes.

Thanks for that fellas, I never really thought I've tanning them and selling them as individual items.

Time to put the thinking cap on. A Davy Crocket thinking cap perhaps?

I'd buy some tanned skins if they were OK for using as rugs or basket linings etc...

tan them and keep them for another year. fox skins have always gone up and down.

some of the suggestions above would be great ways of getting rid of a few. i'd love to see some full fox back quivers where the arrows feed through the mouth like i think kerrille posted.

Hi Tracker I have a recurve that has beaver fur string silencers and they work great,I was wondering if tanned fox skin would work as good and make a bit of market for the skins, how good would it be to shoot a fox with your bow with fox fur silencers in the string. :)
cheers
Matt

Some interesting ideas there.

I don't think turning them into 100,000 string silencers would impress my mate... lol.

Suggesting that we spend $25000 to have them tanned would make him shoot ME!

My post was more about letting anyone else who actually tries to make money off them know what was going on at the moment.

Hi Mick,
If you want to get rid of any, I'd gladly buy a few from you. Just let me know when. :)

All things considered; this is a game and you're not the winner.

To everyone who's mentioned in here or by PM that they'd like a few skins... just give me a little while please.

I'm in Thailand, till the middle of December at least, for work. As soon as I get back I'll thaw some out and dry them and let everyone know they are available.

Sorry for the delay.
