New Australian Traditional Bowhunting 'E-Magazine'.

#1 Post by gundy » Tue Sep 09, 2008 10:37 pm

New Australian Traditional Bowhunting 'eMagazine'.

Hi guys. A bit of news I would like to share.

I have designed and drafted what I call a Traditional Bowhunting ‘eMagazine’. Basically it’s like a standard magazine but is emailed (in this case) Bi-Monthly to anybody who wants it – bit like a SUPER SIZED newsletter. The format will be Adobe PDF so everybody should be able to read it. It will be a combination of photos, stories, reviews and much more! The best thing, it’s free and, it’s all TRADITIONAL BOWHUNTING!

See below for an example of what to expect, Stikbow Hunter is a project I have wanted to work on for quite some time, but I was going to go full print with the idea. A good mate suggested I should try the ‘eMag’ method to gauge interest before lashing out cash to what may end being a fizzer.

I would like help in being able to supply any adventures, photos, how to’s, recipes and anything else you may think others would get use out of, to be able to put it in the magazine for all to share. Any articles, photos etc submitted for the magazine would not be used anywhere else for any other purpose. This is simply a form of sharing information amongst a community with common interests.

Although an Australian based mag, I welcome any story or article, photos etc from any TRAD bowhunter out there. I have posted this thread on many Trad forums so start sending in those articles and photos!

Please ensure if you do email me an article, that it is in Word format and that any photos sent, are as separate attachments and of high quality. No content will be modified unless for grammar, spelling and or; if the content is not deemed suitable for print. The same goes for photos so please keep em clean.

Below is the cover shot of the Premier Issue, released 18th Sep 2008.

I do hope people back this little idea up as it would be great to have all of the great stories, photos etc within a magazine dedicated to Trad bowhunting at arms reach (computer or printed hard copy), rather than sifting through page upon page of threads. This in no way should detract from regular forum input, as the eMag will tell the ‘full story’ where as forum threads usually just touch the surface.

I also welcome any Trad archery/bowhunting suppliers and companies to send me high quality adverts for inclusion if you wish. There is no charge and it will be seen both far and wide! I have already received great feedback and interest from those that have had a sneak peek.

Who knows, it may be popular enough to have printed and distributed if there is enough interest as I have friends in the printing game who are keen to help out. It wont be full gloss color like the major players! But, it may very well be in the form of the 'Backwoodsman' etc, think early early Archery Action. Adds to the feel fo Trad. ;)

This is non profit! I love Trad bowhunting and this is a fun project for me. Thanks guys and stay safe.

If you want the eMagazines, simply visit http://www.stikbowhunter.com where you can download the PDF eMags and more. The site is still under conctruction but will not be too far away. In the meantime, if you would like a copy and did not get on the original list, email me and Ill shoot a copy off to you. Thanks.

Thanks Mick.

If people have any photos TRAD orientated they would like included, feel free to email high res version to me with a short description!

The more momentum we can get behind this as a group, the better the chances for growth to paper copy... 8)

Mornin' Guy,

Phenomenal, top-shelf idea (and front cover)!

I've tried 4 times, unsuccessfully, to send that email. Here, try sending it to mine... cmsackett@doorwaybuck.com

Best of luck... and SUCCESS!

Hey Gundy sounds good.
I was looking at your front cover and being a graphic bull artist I notices that the text in the bottom right is a little hard to read. It could be the crappy home computer screen that I am using at the moment. If not you can try different colours to see which one will stand out better. If you can't find one it always helps to chuck a drop shadow under it or ghost the area behind the text back a bit.
Apart from that the cover is great. I really hope it goes well for you.
I hope I can contribute with some stories in the future.

If you like I can make an ad for the Nepean Bow hunters to put in the mag.

Good to see you doing the mag

Gday Mark!

Dont take any notice of the above screen shot, it was done in 5 minutes and the release version will 'POP'... :)

If the Napean B/Hunters are TRAD, then yes please!

We are trying to stick solely with a trad flavor for obvious reasons.

Regarding freelance submissions, that would be brilliant! This really will be how this project survives as I am pretty sure people would get sick of reading my articles every month! ;)

Guys, the eMag will be released in the next day or so. Due to the unforseen amount of work involved it is going to now be Bi-Monthly, but larger than originally planned - hopefully it will grow providing the support is there...

Initial feedback is promising so I am looking forward to what you all think. Am also open to suggestions.

Not long now.

Congratulations Guy! You've done an excellent job. I can see this magazine going from strength to strength. 8)

I'm starting to carry my camera on all my hunts, so hopefully I'll be able to submit some photos and maybe even a story in the near future.

I'm looking forward to the next one.

Mick, great news mate!

Thanks for the comments guys.

I will commit to putting 100% into it, however the idea can only survive if people forward their articles/photos to me for submission!

For those that are thinking of submitting articles, don't be afraid to do so or think that your story may not sound right. I can fix grammar, spelling and make it flow not a problem at all. I do not mind doing this for people. Writing is a part of my 9-5 job so it does not take me very long to do.

I have started the next issue already and WOW - its looking the goods - should be better than the first issue as I would like to see continuous improvement. More competitions coming up too with additional suppliers jumping onboard - more prizes as well so thanks for the support guys.

I'm stuck out on the rig again and it does not help when your brother sends you emails with photos attached like this....

If you think you want to get out hunting, I am starving for it!

5 days to go.

Hey Phill, Marc has decided to break out the old Recurve and give the Hoyt a rest! Says its too easy, bah! Good news hey.

Thanks again for your efforts, Guy. I'll attempt a story over the next week or two, hopefully, for the next one. :D

It's the forests where silence has lease;
It's the beauty that thrills me with wonder,
It's the stillness that fills me with peace.
