URGENT: DUCK HUNTING BAN IMMINENT, PLEASE HELP!

#1 Post by erron » Thu Dec 04, 2003 5:56 pm

SUBJECT : Recreational Duck Hunting threatened!
Victorian Alp State Conference - Urgent Action Required

--------------------------------------------------------------------
The Victorian Labor Party will be holding their annual state
conference this coming weekend (6th & 7th Dec).

There is currently considerable media speculation that a motion
will be put to the conference delegates for a "permanent ban on duck
hunting in Victoria".

It has been previously stated that Ballarat MP Geoff Howard had
called for a total ban, however the Labor party Country Caucus has
publicly stated it's full support for the continuation of duck hunting.

Further to this, Minister Thwaites indicated in parliament,
when questioned by the Nationals, that the Government had no intention of
changing it's current policy.

Since then a small group of Labor MP's has continued to call
for a ban and the RSPCA's Hugh Wirth, in his weekly ABC radio programme,
has called on conference delegates to vote for a total ban also.

WE URGE ALL HUNTERS TO TAKE POSITIVE ACTION NOW TO ENSURE THE
CONTINUATION OF DUCK HUNTING IN VICTORIA!

HERE'S HOW YOU CAN HELP!

Below is a full list of Victorian upper and lower house Labor
MP's. We ask that you identify your local Members and email them urgently
using the following dot points as a guide.

May we also suggest that you email the following major players
within the Victorian Government AS WELL!

Steve Bracks, Premier: John Thwaites, Deputy Premier and
Environment Minister: Bob Cameron, Agriculture Minister

Ask if they will be supporting the current Government policy,
that is, the continuation of recreational duck hunting in Victoria?

Will they be speaking in support of duck hunting at the State
Labor Conference this weekend?

Let them know that duck hunting is a strong tradition within
your family.

Hunting contributes millions of dollars into the Victorian
economy, particularly in rural areas.

Hunter's voluntary contributions to pest animal control,
research and habitat restoration provides enormous benefits to Government
and the community.
