Decision on Duck Shooting In Victoria This Month?

#1 Post by erron » Tue Nov 04, 2003 5:32 pm

An article in today's Age newspaper says there is a core of activists in the Labor Party who want a permanent ban. I did a web search, but only came up with the following. Perhaps Dennis can enlighten us?
Duck shooting opponents hope for permanent ban

Anti-hunting activists says a campaign to end duck shooting in Victoria will be successful by the end of the year.

They have started a letter-writing campaign to the Victorian Government, urging it to make permanent last year's temporary ban on duck shooting.

Laurie Levy from the Coalition Against Duck Shooting says he is expecting the Government to make a decision in November.

He says it will be easier for the Government to ban the sport this year, because it controls both houses of Parliament.

"The Bracks Labor Government can make an honest decision without being held to ransom by a hostile Upper House or three Independents having excess amounts of power," he said.
