Wild Dogs Story

#1 Post by hubris » Thu Jul 15, 2004 10:59 am

Gday Guys, did anyone else read the story in the Herald this morning about the wild dogs at Bombala and Bega. There's a photo of a farmer with two dogs that must each reach over 180cm

He said they were Great Dane and Ridgeback cross. Pretty impressive.

Hmm, any chance of a pic?

Wouldn't want to run into to many of them in the bush, if they hadn't eaten in a while  .

Erron,

It was on the bottom corner of a two page spread about the ACT kangaroo issue. Part of the dog article - as you've hinted to - was about how because of the drought they've started getting really dangerous and game. One farmer said something about giving up several paddocks because they couldn't control them.

I read it while I was having some morning coffee. If I get my work done in time I'll go down and see if I can take the page, scan it and put it up later.

Yeah, I saw that... it's a shortened version of the full one. The full one had a full article on the dogs. I'll post the full one with pics tommorrow.

Adam matey.. we WILL be there.. bags first up the tree.. hahahaha...

Went up high last night, forgot my thermals AND my boots... sure enough.. bloody FREEZING and it was snowing on us this morning as we were walking out.. complete swamp frozen over couple of centimetres thick.. . saw a bit of pig sign too.. heard a few howls in the night as well... :D

If we aren't after dogs next weekend I reckon we could go up and see if we could get a "snap frozen" pig..

G'day. This is my first post here.
I thought I would expand on the dog article in the paper posted here. About 6 weeks ago that pic was in the cooma paper and the dog on the left (the farmers right) was reported as being 72kg's. Not the sort of critter I would like to meet some dark and stormy night.
The workers on one station near bombala have been putting out traps and in the last year alone are reported to have caught over 200 dogs. These are not pro doggers but just station hands who until last year had never set a dog trap.
And yes the guys at the paper who drew the map must be on drugs, neither Tumut nor Gundagai are north of Wee Jasper.(At least not as shown on that map)

Welcome to Ozbow Mick, and thanks for enlarging on this story. :)

Sure is a worrying development, if it get out of hand.

Adam mate, you KNOW we'll be up for it. Mick and I got back just as it started to snow on the mountains. We noticed quite a few dog baiting signs around, among other things. I do know of a couple of spots where the dogs are and will DEFINITELY come into camp.

Though like Mick says... I think I'll be picking a spot with a nice tall tree, with a comfortable branch. I'm ordering some more heavier shafts this week to make up so I'll have a total of 24 hunting arrows - compared to your never ending Legolas quiver!

Thanks jindy for that info, I'd like to eventually post my own photo
