They make great arrow rests for target bows.
Has Lewis shrunk??
So do I expect Lewis to be shooting a Yumi at the next Trad' Shoot?

I'm sure it was great to spend some time in there. How much lighter was your wallet by the time you got out of the place though?
That contraption in the upper right of the last photo looked kind of out of place in there.

The other side of the shop was full of them, but we did not go there to look at them.
And I did lighten my wallet.

Re: Shoping in Tokyo
Most think that a good thing about trad shooting is that it is a bit cheaper.
That changes when shooting Yumi.
Are you going to shoot 36 inch alloy arrows with a thumb ring? and the special gloves?
Did you buythe special shooting outfit as well?

Have not got everything yet.
Hope to go to a high school Kyudo after school club tomorrow.
Have a big book to read first.
It was well worth the time to visit the shop here.

Re: Shoping in Tokyo
One of the guys who goes to Liverpool City Archers, Chris Mcguirk has all that gear and is trying to get a dojo set up in Oz so they can bring out Japanese experts. Bit hard getting better when you do something like that by yourself. Lucky for him there are a number of longbowers there to give him a tip or two.

Morning All
Tip number #1 - Get a Longbow.
My view is that I am certain that Kyudo appeals to some people. For me whilst I am interested in the gear I am not that interested in the other aspects of it. Having spent a small amount of time talking to a friend about such I can see that there are some people who want to shoot the bow and others who are more interested in the other aspects.
If you want the gear desperately you can always import it yourself, Making some of it yourself is not out of the realms of possibility I await Steve's attempt at making a bow with great interest.
Perhaps Yabusame could be the go - How about it Simon?

Re: Shoping in Tokyo
Well, today Lewis had an hour with a Kyudo teacher and 4-5 off his students helping. To learn Kyudo the right way being able to shoot a longbow in no way helps you, it is very diffent in every way, from the way to hold the bow to holding the string. It was good of them to take time to show us as they were getting ready for a big comp this weekend, we stayed and watched them practice after they helped us.

Eddie, where we help Chris is by filming him from different angles and showing him.
At other times we note differences in his follow through or collapsing whilst holding etc.
It is amazing how many times longbowers tell recurvers and compounders that they heard something different or loose. I guess that at the clubs I shoot at we act as team to help each other technically.

Ed,
Glad to see you made it to that shop. I ran out of time and didn't make it up there, maybe next time. Did you make it to Engakuji to watch the masters shoot? I shot one of the yumi's and they are very different and difficult to shoot. Nothing like shooting western style! Enjoy your new bow!

Wow do they just leave those yumis strung up all the time? I would think that is bad for an all natural material bow :O
