Wow! Get your bows out fellows, in case any camels get blown into your yards with all that! :D
It's the great, big, broad land 'way up yonder,
It's the forests where silence has lease;
It's the beauty that thrills me with wonder,
It's the stillness that fills me with peace.

It feels like I'm on Mars with the redness.

Something interesting I noted was that the birds didn't start singing until an hour after their usual time this morning.

I remember dust like this in Brisbane in 1965 but it was worse, didn't see the sun for about 3 weeks, there was a big drought on at the time...Glenn...

That's good that it has cleared mate. We have the aircons on hoping to keep the dust out of the house. We hope it clears before the weekend as our son is getting married.

Be careful because leaving motors on air con and cooling fans on computers could cause them to clog up and burn out.....two neighbours computer towers blew up.
Just remember that a high percentage of that topsoil was something's guano yesterday....breathe deep but blow harder.

Moreton bay looked pretty spooky at around midday today! I've never seen anything like that in Bris before.
Lately, if life were treating me any better, I'd be suspicious of it's motives!

 Geez!! I've never seen anything like that before! EVER! Mind you, I'm not as old as you guys yet  jokes.
But seriously, how do you get dust storms? Ive never heard of them. :? Is it purely due to a lack of rain?
Thanks,

Ben

Lack of rain and no vegetation on the ground to hold the soil in place. You should see some of the Willy Willies (mini tornadoes) they get in the Outback, it's a sight to see. It was a lot worse in the mid 60's and it lasted for weeks...Glenn...

It was the floods from QLD that dumped their dust in SA. It was just being sent back :)

http://www.smh.com.au/environment/sydne ... -g2e0.html
Dr Mitchell, CSIRO wrote:"One of the main sources of this is via the waterways that drain into the basin, particularly the rivers from the tropical parts of Queensland, like the Diamantina (river), the Georgina (river) and Cooper Creek.

"Over preceding months we've had some flood events that have dumped quite a bit of fine material in (the basin).

"So there's the availabilty of the sediments and what you need then is a very severe weather event to blow them out and that's exactly what we've had over the last 24 hours or so."

Last time this happened, the red dust ended up on the New Zealand ski slopes.

  When was the last time you were on mars????

Sure makes a mess...I just finished installing 2x 140000litre rain water tanks and we had the same dust storm but then heaps of rain so now they are half full of red muddy water....
Cheers...Sparra
