what song do you play in the car going to a hunt?
or dreaming about a hunt. what psyhc's you up? can stop playing tommy emmanuel's 'the journey' and dreaming about buffulo hunting with a stick and string. something about it stirs up images of being in arnhem land taking on something with what is basicaly an ancient weapon. the swamps,. the floodplains, sneaking around amongst the paperbarks. can't wait!!
what's your tune?

i go a little more subtle as i need to calm myself down. i'm always doing something and never have enough hours in the day to do everything i want to. infact i very rarely stop and do nothing...ever! so i will listen to some what softer, older stuff like; Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, JJ Cale, Dire Straights, Jimmy buffet, Neil Young, Credence, Travelling Wilburies, Notting Hillbillies, Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, Fleetwood Mac, Tom Waits, etc..., it also helps me drive slower on the rough roads when im keen and eager to get to my favourite spot and get amoungst it... calming down.
actually this is what i listen to all the time, except when i'm at work where i just listen to radio.
at the moment i can't stop listening to 'night moves', bob seger.

Of Wolf and Man- Metallica. It's actually about hunting.

morton,
i listened to metallica religiously for years. they have a beautiful way of writing and beautiful music. not near as heavy as people think IMO. they are still one of my favourite bands. love it.
clinton i just youtube'd 'journey' love the intro. it reminds me of a cross between old irish, scotish highland and riverdance style beats.

Re: what song do you play in the car going to a hunt?
Yeah, liked 'em more back in the "Kill'em all!" or "And Justice for All" days but I just like a few of their songs. I don't really follow bands any more but when I was a young bloke I was NUTS about Cold Chisel! It was the first time I'd ever seen working class blokes get a break and their shows were like nothing I've ever been to since, especially if you caught them in a pub! I tell ya, to be young, male, Australian, and working class between say, '79-'85 was a great thing!
"One Long Day"- now there's a good song for a long drive.

What, no mention of Metallica, Grahame? I'm shocked! I was certain I'd seen you in the mosh back in '91- '92! Remember? It was at the Big Day Out, or was it Livid? Anyway, you had your shirt off so the girls could see your muscles and many tatts, and you'd dyed some of your dreads different colours along with your goatee. Metallica were on just after Bodycount, or was it Nirvana? Maybe Beastie Boys!!? It's a bit hazy after all these years... I suppose I can't expect you to remember too much of it. From my perspective, for you at least, it was indeed a BIG DAY OUT! ( Just how did you get that large bottle of bourbon in through security and just how many buxom young rock-chicks surrounding him does a man need to prime his ego, huh?!?)

Afternoon Craig
The last Rock Concert I was at - if you can call it that - concerned the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and a range of the finest artists of the day and was at Sydney's Randwick Racecourse. As to clue as to what it was, well Daryl Braithwaite had the lead.
The last show was "Dusty". That noisy person in the cheap seats wouldn't have been you?
Now if you want real heavy metal - I do have the original of this - but would much prefer to listen to this.
But then again this is a trad site so we should have trad music so you could have this but then again perhaps we should listen to it in a more traditional manner like so. But they sing this better. However, we should really stick to archery related music on this site so here we go. But since we started talking about Rock - how about Ritchie Blackmore on lead guitar.
You'd have to be joking. That sort of stuff rots the brain.Moreton wrote:What, no mention of Metallica, Grahame?

So after putting that reply together it is only fair that I get to ask a Trivia question. So in which piece did Eithne's sister perform in - well that really isn't a fair question so better still have a listen to some really great Canadian Folk by Stan Rogers.
Have you ever noticed the rich heritage of music available on YouTube?

For the perfect combination of traditional archery and rock to inspire you on the way to a hunt, I look no further than this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ilqa-lo3yVY
Lately though I have been really getting into listening to David Gilmour's "On an Island" when I'm on the road for a hunt. Helps me feel relaxed and centred when I get there.

Re: what song do you play in the car going to a hunt?
Sigh.
Plenty. And yes, I do Deliverance. It used to be one we'd groan about, but now its kind of in vogue.
But there is a spin off. If doing a particularly boganish (apols to any bogans here) gig we always get a (drunken) request for Deliverance. Dutifully we crank it out. There are always subsequent requests, but this is how it goes:
1st repeat - round of drinks for the band
2nd request - round of drinks and $20 in the tin
3rd request - round of drinks and $20 in the tin and the hat goes round.
We've actually done this - and luckily there were no fourth requests, because we couldn't have played it anyway.
