Impressive. Better than a fair bit of 'pro' work I've seen (well... work they apparently paid money for.)

Have you done much work? And is the picture an original?

Yep , it's a Phoenix :)
It will have Green , Reds , Yellows , Purple , Blue and Orange in it , as well as Cherry Blossoms all around it and some greay shading .
I have been tattooing for about 6-8months and the wife picked the picture out of a flash book .

Mate, why are you wasting your time pruning vines? You have talents others wish they had, go for it! A couple of years training under an established tattooist and your away. The phoenix is great, and your wife showed a lot of trust and confidence in you to let you do it.Well done!

Lately, if life were treating me any better, I'd be suspicious of it's motives!

Impressive indeed.
Will be interesting to see how you go with the colour fill and the grey shade. Good luck! Post up some pics in progress if the Mrs permits.

I've seen some greatwork recently, incl a fair bit at the Summernats, but by god there is some real crap out there. This however is looking great.

Very good Coach! How do reds and yellows hold these days? I had a simple design I wanted (of a phoenix, lol) in red and yellow for years but the tattooists always advised against and the reds and yellows in my forty year old tatt are gone. Been a while since I checked, are the pigments better today?

Mate, if you don't try to pursue this as a career your even sillier than I thought!

Jape , I can't really tell you if the colours are better these days , as I wasn't tattooing 40 years ago  But , I assume they would be . Where is this tattoo of yours ? Did it see a lot of sun ?
Moreton ,, I take each day as it comes , time will tell if I am good enough to make it a career . Have to learn to draw more for a start . As for being sillier than you thought , I probably am anyway

There is lots of detail that you cant see in the Pic , and there may be a few that I will have to touch up , but all in all , I am happy with what I have produced .
Now ,, I want some work done on me ,, so hopefully Lisa will be able to do the same on me :D

Figured that... and even without the advantage of seeing the fine shading nuances... WOW!

Well done.
