Australian manufactured 3D targets

#1 Post by Mick Smith » Fri Nov 07, 2008 10:20 am

Our very own Mark Harvey (aka Scrub Bull) has been quietly designing and manufacturing good quality 3D targets. Mark's exploits will come as no shock to most Ozbowers, as they have been mentioned before on this site.

I was happily surprised whilst at the recent Morwell shoot, to see that Mark has now introduced some excellent small game 3D targets. Of course, the rabbit target immediately took my eye. I've been looking for a good 3D rabbit for some time. In fact, I had one ordered from the US, which was going to cost me nearly AU$100, but the order fell though as their warehouse burnt down (so they said :( ).

Anyway, back to Mark's 3D targets. He supplies not only rabbits, but a nice cat and a small pig 3D target as well.

The targets are well made. They come unpainted, but that's no problem if you're a do it yourselfer. They seem to hold up well after repeated arrow hits and the arrows can be extracted without too much effort. The quality of the finished product shows in the fine detail of the small features and the lack of unsightly bubbles, etc.

I think there's a real market for locally manufactured 3D targets in this country. Compared with how much it would cost you to import 3D targets from the US, these targets are an excellent buy. At the Morwell shoot the rabbit and cat targets were AU$50 and the pig target was AU$150.

I've attached a photo of my rabbit target. Please note, I have painted some details on my target (I couldn't resist :D ) and I've burnt in a larger easier to hit scoring zone on the 'off' side of the target.

Great looking target.
Mark should contact the Nepean Bow Hunters club. We are after some new targets.

I can surely endorse Micks comments.......I bought a small 3D pig and was pleasantly supprised at ease of arrow out. Great to see local guys giving it a go at a fair price.

Yep, Mark Harvey calls them "Aussie Ferals" (named after his family, I can say, on good authority!!).
TradBits has them & lots of other stuff.
When Mark gets back from the Spring Shooting Season in Victoria, he'll get more onto the website & start large pig, goat etc targets manufacturing.....after the virtually infinite list of jobs around home & farm I've dreamed up for him in his absence.
Locally produced = great for Aussie economy too.

Glad you're having fun shooting holes in ScrubBull's targets.
Each day is a gift. Enjoy the Present.

Thanks for the info.
Just the other day I was searching for 3d targets and found Chris/Gnomes thread on the cat target. Though he didn't paint it up lovingly like Mick did.

Actually Vaughn... thats an idea... buy myself an 'Easter Bunny' instead of chocolate... don't think I'll get one for the kids though, suspect the Mrs wouldn't approve...

If you're interested in buying yourself a bunny or any of Mark's 3D targets and if you happen to be going to the Ballarat shoot in a couple of weeks, you will be able to buy them in person as Mark is going to be there. Hopefully he should have some left.

It's good have another source of 3D targets other than from the US. We should promote Aussie manufacturers at every opportunity.

Good on you Mark for having a go! :D

Mark showed us his rabbit 3D last year at Ballarat, and we were all pretty impressed with the quality of the foam he used.

They seem to be a perfect blend of arrow stopping, ease of withdrawal and durability.

Whatever his foam formula is, its pretty good.

Hopefully if his smaller targets go well and the're paying their way, he may be able to do some larger ones.

I think there would be a good market for larger models, but I realise there is a lot more work involved than simply squirting more foam into a bigger mould.

But bigger ones would be nice.............. :D

Mark, do you have a web site we can check out for prices and models available.

Mark H,
if you find that when your feet hit the ground you still have a rabbit - I'd be more than happy to buy him. Or wait until you've done another run.

Cheers,
Mark N
