Our Logo!!!

#1 Post by erron » Thu Aug 21, 2003 7:16 pm

Folks, what do you think? ----->

Image

I personally love it, and I just want to extend the biggest possible thank you to Jeff Challacombe (Stickbow Hunter), Guy Curtis (Gundy) and Dennis La Varenne for their help in putting this together. In fact, help doesn't begin to cover what these blokes did to get this done. The original figure of the Akubra-wearing hunter is something Dennis and Jeff have worked on over time, Dennis came to the rescue when we were struggling with wording, and Guy did the phenomenal artwork. Me, I stumbled along after these blokes mumbling thanks...

Seriously, thanks people. It's a beautiful logo, and one I think we can all be proud of! First step will be to get some Stickers printed with it on them. If any of you are interested in getting a few to distribute, let me know.

What do others think of the design? If you have any qualms or suggestions, now is the time to speak, as I feel pretty ready to go with this.

Cheers,

Erron

Further details about the genesis of "Akubra Man" in the logo. Jeff advises that this is from the photo Greg Hovi from Mt Isa took at one of the TRASH shoots. Greg 'picked out' the outline of Akubra Man from this photo and did the original drawing from that. Jeff and Dennis later adapted this for a project they were working on. From that, Guy Curtis used his multiple talents with image enhancement software to incorporate the image into the logo and make it web friendly, amongst other things. The image itself is an outline of Strowie shooting, as seen in this photo:

Cool eh!

Papabear,

thanks for the feedback. Yes, an outline would be good, but it might get a little crowded in there with one. Will have to think about that (in collaboration with the design team, of course  )

Steve,

thanks mate, that would be great. Not sure what the cost would be at the moment, but hope to have an idea by next week. It should be fairly nominal, I hope. The idea is to 'spread the word' at this stage. :)

cheers all,

Erron

I think that the Logo needs a map of Australia on it. Our continent is one of the most dinstinctive continents in the world and it is instantly reconizable. The figure should be in the map even if it is obscuring some of it. I also think that the figure while it strikes a good pose it's to heavy he needs to be slimed down, and the hat is too high crowned, the figure just doesen't look right to me. Not wishing to offend anybody but that's just what I feel about it...Glenn...

Yes Glenn, it would be nice if we could squeeze the Aussie map in, I just love the thing, and it really does say OZ, as Papabear pointed out earlier!

As to trimming the figure, have to leave that one up to Guy. I agree that the hat could be shrunk a little to make it look more like a generic Akubra, but again, not sure if it can be done.

What do you think, Guy?

I think it looks great just how it is.

Glenn and Papabear metion about having a map of Australia. I don't really think we need to. Ozbow is "Traditional Bowhunting and Archery in Australia". To me that immediately identifies it as Australian.

As to the figure, I like it as it is also. If it is slimmed down or the height of the hat reduced, then it no longer represents the photo it was taken from - a photo of a real Aussie charcater wearing his trademark Akubra, shooting a trad bow.

Just my thoughts.

Jeff

Congratulations to all!
Having been involved in designing logos, etc, over the years I know its no easy task - and I reckon the design is a beauty!
While the idea of having the outline of Australia in it too is a good one, I agree that too much means clutter and then the whole thing gets confusing - but with such a top team on the job I'm sure the final thing will be a winner! :D

Now, when they are ready, I'll need one for my car, one for the wife's, one for the letterbox, one fo the cat ....
Don't get me started on how many T-shirts I'll be needing!

Lindsay,

I'm coming to the same conclusion re: clutter, too, although it would still be nice to have the OZ map in there :?

Maybe, since the original idea was for a bumper sticker, it really can't accomodate it. What do you think, Guy?

Now, on the T-Shirt, a map outline would almost be necessary, to fill out the graphic area, I think.

Thanks for all the feedback folks, and keep it coming if you're inclined to.

Just slide the statement Passing on "Our heritage" either right or left and put a small outline in the opening - nothing big.

Hey Jeffery did you see what Strowie called me.... a bloody PANZER.
I'm hurt, cut to the quick, mortally wounded, calls himself a bloody mate.
Oh well I s'pose the Trashie thing to do is to get even.
And it wouldn't be too hard to get even with a bloke that walks a POODLE every night, yes a POODLE, but only after dark...someone might see him.
Not a good image for the"Akubra Man"

Yes
The wife bought a poodle and yes i walk it at night so as not to be seen!!!
The part you dont know is poodles are good for lots of things out hunting!!!!
1 they make fantastic burr removers just one wipe and the burrs are out of your socks
2 They are useful after a muddy trip and you want to get the 4x4 clean again for the trip home
3 They can be used to start fires in the wet just add a little liquid fuel
4 They dont taste to bad with a side dish of beans and lentils
5 The best thing of all is when your in dire straits and oout of paper you can wipe your **** with them and just rinse them out .

Know thats thinkin aint it
