Mountain Bikes

I've loved riding pushbikes ever since I was thirteen and bmx had just been invented. As an adult I've always enjoyed mountain biking and wonder if anyone here uses a bike to get to the more remote places that a car just wont go, but it's still too far to walk to, y'know? I think a simple bracket should be all that would be needed for carriage of a bow and other objects, so how about it, does anyone combine biking with archery?

I think it would be fun but currently I ride from Bulleen to Carlton every second morning to work... it seems like a jungle avoiding pedestrians that walk out onto the road and the occasional driver that appears to be clinically blind...

I don't think I'd want to risk my longbow riding through tracks, but if I had a take down...

I think I have an overactive imagination of chasing animals on pushbikes somewhat similar to riding a horse... Or maybe it's just because it's Friday...

I've been thinking about that option for quite some time Moreton...
But I think I would have trouble trying to dink a sambar down a bush track on my front handlebars

I'm not too far away from purchasing a roadbike with dirt capabilities, probably a BMW Dakar so I can ride to remote hunting locations most people can't get to without a very long hike. It certainly gives you a lot more options!

I definitely wouldn't try to ride with a 1 piece bow however, your asking for trouble! 2 piece takedown is on my wishlist

use to hunt off the one spot i went to the rabbits never would be out if i was on foot but on the bike tthey would just sit thea so id slam on the brakes and take the shot with the bike still between the legs didnt hit much but hell i never did off the bike eather

Im setting a mountain bike up at the moment for back country Bowhunts.

I currently Ride a mountain bike around after work in remote Wa, its certainly great fun sometimes riding a few kms up into the rocky landscape along game and stock trails. Our camps are generally hundreds of kms from anywhere which makes a ride from camp feel like your worlds from anything.

I'll deffinatly be looking into doing some bowhunts on bike soon.

I have (do) use a MTB for hunting. Not all the time mind you but they are great for getting in behind gates and on de-activated roads. Before any one has a hissy fit about the "behind gates" comment we have roads over here that access public land but are closed to motorized vehicle traffic.

I've used a bike for moose and blacktail deer hunting. Never packed out a moose on one but did have a whole deer strapped on 'er once.

Current "off road" rig is a Kona Kikapu. So far I haven't wrecked it.

I was going to paint it like a flano shirt

but decided to go with camo to match my hunting wear.

You could always upholster the seat with an old flanno, Adam!

Never seen a cammo bike before, but I bet they've been seen in Sydney this weekend (Scary stuff that, it's not the Australia I grew up in, that's for sure!)
Ever tried a duel suspension in that terrain?

MTB's are pretty damn good

I ride about 180km per week commuting on mine
keeps the blubber off

I can ride from home to one little hunting ground

My tips for puncture resistance is run the kevlar tape
on the inside of the tyres

It's funny some of the american hunter prefer smoother tyres
as the make less noise

the whole concept of MTB camping/hunting is quite sound

Hello all

I only just recently got a new MTB a week or two back,and the first place I took it was to my usual hunting grounds chasing rabbits.

Sorry but I was using a riffle but I still had a ball. I did manage to bag a couple of bunnies that arfternoon and I will probably be taking it with me hunting these coming holidays

last time i took a mountain bike to an archery weekend, i went sailing over the hangers and made a mess of my left shoulder!

It was a great feeling flying through the air, kickin the back wheel out 45 degrees......... the only part that sucked was thinking my AC joint should hit the ground before my tyres.

If you ever get the chance.......... pass on that!
