Avatars - Why that one??

General discussions. Politics, scuttlebutt, whatever: you're getting married, changing jobs, got a gripe or a compliment, dying to get out with the bow etc.....

Avatars - Why that one??

#1 Post by GrahameA » Thu Apr 13, 2006 8:08 am

Good Morning Traditional Toxophiltes

Everytime I look at Ozbow I wonder why the members have the Avatars that they do.

In my case my current Avatar is a Mongolian Archer which reflects my interest in Asian recurves plus it is unique (which says something else).

Tracker uses what appears to be a frame out of "Last of the Mohicans" and that being a one of my favourite films sort of impresses me.

Keith Forrester has Sir Rodney entering the "Ye Olde Arrowmaker's" shop. And with Keith being a Master Fletcher it seems appropriate.

So why have people chosen the Avatar that they have?
Grahame.

I chose mine because Dale Gribble looks like me, and according to my mates i remind them of him too. The few of you who have met me may agree, i dunno if its the hat and sunnies, the ciggeratte in the mouth, or the conspiricy theories regarding the government cover up of ufo activity. But apparently there is some resemblence.

I don't have an avatar...but that's purely as a result of my uselessness with all things computery...if someone would kindly point me in the right direction of how and where to get one I'd be havin' an avatar pronto....
I'd love to have a battle of wits with you.....but you appear to be un-armed.....

I chose mine because I am a Traditional Bowhunter and I designed the logo to say that and had the buckles made. I like to promote Bowhunting at every opportunity.

Hellier,

At the top of this page you will see the word Profile with a small logo of a person. Click on that and it will take you to your profile where you can make changes to it.

Look down near the bottom and you will see where it says about adding an avatar. You just click the browse button to add the chosen file from your computer. Just note that there are dimensions and files size limits on an avatar so you may need to make your avatar photo smaller.

I wanted a simple picture which would be different to most other things that people have. Therefore, a hand drawn picture of some guy drawing a composite bow is just about it.

I change mine every now and then. I get sick of the same old one. Mine is currently my 50# Bear Kodiak Magnum along with some carbon arrows I made. I just liked the photo. 8) It's an effective combination too.

Mate mine is of my dog because in hunting circles the BLACK DOG (Labrador) is known as a HUNTER (more in the USA than here though)
They have hunting instinct which is purely natural to their breed
And it is also the name of the bows I make "BLACK DOG CUSTOM BOW"

ANDDDD cause he me "mate"

Just recently changed mine from a Samurai archer to a trad archer tramping through snow. Doesn't really fit the user name but appealed at the time ... I may change if I can find a good clip of Mongol warrior.

Mine has Magua holding a chicken because of an 'infamous' incident involving me, a farmers wife and cage full of darting roosters that long term members may remember.

Good Morning Everyone

Some interesting replies and it interesting to see that there is more to the Avatar than first impressions.

Bye for now - the car is packed and the wilds call.

I liked the white rabbit pic so much I had to steal it. I just use whatever pic I like at the time. Sometimes I don't feel like one at all... I am rarely organised enough to have all my various forums using the same avatar.

The rabbit also reminds me of that part of "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" by Hunter S Thompson....

buzz, that rabbit is the scariest avatar since my own one-time David Bowie!

Choko, haven't been keeping up on current events, but congrats to the - assumed - recent arrival, and all the best to your family!

I was going through all the archery stuff on the international ebay. That's what I do sometimes when I get bored. Anyway I came across this pewter badge some dude was trying to sell. I sort of liked it, so I lifted a copy of it. The shape of the broadhead is, of course the famous Ben Pearson "Deadhead", one of my favourite broadheads. I have used this type of broadhead for decades and I still own about a dozen or so, although nowdays I'm a bit hesitant to shoot them because I've seen them sell for ridiculous amounts to broadhead collectors in the US.

I reckon I'll keep this one for a fair while. 8)
