Life after Archery:

As much as I enjoy my mid week archery ageing is starting to take its toll but I will still loose arrows as often as I can.
My new trike has opened up a new world to enjoy.

I found several bike trails on YouTube that are in easy reach from home.
A fellow club member purchased an e-bike and comes along on the trips.
A video from the net of my first adventure but done in the opposite direction.

We finished our trip at the Berrinba Wetlands https://www.tripadvisor.com.au/Attracti ... sland.html and headed home. At the time I was unaware that the cycle route continued through to Greenbank. The trip covered 48.8 klms. The trike battery has a range up to 50 klms so I carry a spare battery.
The trike has proven to be excellent value as I use it for 99% of my shopping trips and medical appointments.
The 86GTS sits in the workshop and if lucky does one trip a week to the archery club.

Alex, Yes it seems Facebook etc has taken over from forums. I myself have run into some health issues and I have not flung an arra for quite some time. Hopefully others are still enjoying club shoots and bowhunting etc though.

Good on you Daryl keep on keepin on mate.
With all my various injuries whilst I am still able to shoot a bow it is much reduced poundages now; 35 and 40# on a good day instead of 50#+.

Fibreglass and wood laminations especially....
After the demise of Bingham's , I am still at lost......trying to find a supplier....

On both occasions I ordered strips, however the second order was delivered as a 40 meter roll.
Their clear glass price was considerably cheaper than Bingham but the shipping charges were high.

G'day Alex, Sorry but I haven't ordered any glass or bow making gear for quite a few years. I still have some supplies here. It seems freight charges from the USA are exorbitant!!! They always were high but in recent years they have increased to the ridiculous.

Bugger......their measurements are all metric......
Binghams were all Imperial........and everything is the same.....fiberglass is 1mm thick....and the wood is all .6 mm thick , with no tapers......
Hehehe.......that's new to me......
The fiberglass I can deal with it......but the wood.....I'll have to make my own .....again......a lot of dust flying......

Alex, That seems strange. Perhaps go on one of the American Trad forums and ask where the best place is to get bow making supplies and I'm sure you would be pointed in the right direction. Hope you get it sorted quickly.

I was taking a look around....
Few of them have 2 inches fiberglass.....
Wood laminations .....the majority is 1.5 to 1.75 inches.....
I'll have to start making my wooden lams again.....
I'll just buy the fiberglass.....

I am working in the top end WA at the moment. Happy to see some life in OZ bow, I am happy to keep the site going for the people that still use it resources to build bows.

Thanks Jeff.
The Red Elm is a Don Assenheimer that I had to make a pair of limbs for the owner.
One of the limbs had delaminated , so he sent the whole bow to me , I copied the good limb, made a form and refit 2 new limbs on the bow.
It's the same bow that is in the top picture , still in tillering mode.
I need to find a reliable source of fiber glass again......and wood ....parallels and tapers.
No luck until now.....
All my forms are for 2" wide fiber glass.......it's been hard to find.

Hi Alex,

You should be able to get 2” wide clear glass from the following suppliers. With adding the cost of freight you may need a 'Pacemaker' for your wallet.

I have stopped making bows for various reasons one of which was the increasing costs of materials.

The Australian Dollar is really low now also.....
I was talking with John Clark of Ausbow.....he can still get me some 2" wide fiberglass.
I just want to make one more bow.....for myself.......I already have the riser......just need the limbs.
