Alone - TV series

#1 Post by Kendaric » Sat Nov 21, 2020 8:42 am

For the several weeks, I have been watching the Alone series on SBS. Basically, individuals are dropped in remote areas and they must they survive in the wilderness for as long as possible using a limited amount of survival equipment.

Interestingly, of those who opted for bow and arrow as part of their survival kit, all went for for what was essentially trad gear - no sights or training wheels.

that's because they are not allowed to.
they must also abide by local game laws.

can you imagine it here in Australia. starvation surrounded by 1000's of edible native animals. Anything goes in real survival.

Mind you, those that had bows seemed like they were reasonably proficient shooters, and some of these were also selfbows. I get the impression that all the contestants were into survivalism. I suspect that these would have been their bows of choice.

I watched two series of this show.

From the list mentioned earlier, some of the contestant's had more that ten items from that list.

Also I think that they were allowed extra lighting as in torches and lamps, because they were doing their own filming.

And it could be done in Australia. Up in the Daintree Rain Forest, one area as an example, the only thing that you would have to watch out for are the feral pigs.

An interesting show :)

I see that SBS has been advertising applications for an Australian Alone Series. Now that would be interesting. Perhaps a little frustrating to watch too, as someone mentioned - watching someone starve whilst being surrounded my 1000's of edible native animals. Lets hope the greenies don't put a kybosh on it.
