Luck is a transitory thing!

#1 Post by bigbob » Wed May 21, 2014 6:15 pm

Been making a new form for my first 'curve, and decided to give the workshop a bit if a clean first. I have a big industrial Ryobi drill press that I moved to sweep around , but because the table was swung around at about 45* to the column it overbalanced and hit the deck. My luck being what it is, the table promptly parted ways with the collar bracket that holds it on the column. Ok --out with the ol' stick welder hiding in the corner, down to my local steel place, leave there $20 lighter with 5 cast welding rods. Pick up hand piece which promptly falls off lead into my hand.Retaining screw inside is rusted and can't be budged, off to said same steel place, another $25 and new hand piece, get home, fit said hand piece, grab helmet from the shelf and---discover it has a cracked lens. That's where I called it a day and retreated upstairs dragging my tail behind. Some days just don't seem to be worth the effort! :x :x

Hey Bob
Walking away is the strongest path

Its funny how something really frustrating like that can give you the heads up on something more beneficial. I have faith something more suitable will present itself in due course.

Cheers

Morning Bob.

Hmmmmm.........

If you had left the drill alone would that have changed the outcome?

Statistics, Probabilty and Game Theory - Yes. Luck - No.

Sorry about your bad luck there, it can go in runs but so too does good luck if you give it an opportunity (that is what I am telling myself anyway). At least you have the welding skills to fix it mate. And reading this gives me another excuse not to sort out the mess I call a shed so thanks for that ...

So the Butterfly flapping in the Amazon is responsible for the disaster in your workshop. So we could surmise that the strange attractor at work is .... you????

Bob creates workshop, Bob destroys workshop ......... (With apologies to "Dr Ian Malcolm" Jurassic Park. You know where that leads........)

I just put it down to poor spelling.

With regard to Butterflies - it is not the ones local that cause the issue.......
...... The shorthand is the, the Butterfly Effect. A butterfly can flap its wings in Peking, and in Central Park you get rain instead of sunshine. .......

Perhaps the question should be if someone else had moved the the drill would the outcome have been the same? Does the person observing the event effect the outcome of the event?

No. It is similar to one hand clapping.
