Plastic nock failure

#1 Post by blu-dog » Fri Mar 14, 2014 5:29 pm

Recently made a set of arrows for a mate and after his first 3 shots, 3 nocks had failed...splitting along one side and flying off of the shaft. One even took a chunk out of his hand as it let go. Same nocks I have used on previous shafts... I buy in packs of 100, same glue etc. What might have gone wrong?

Have you checked the string diameter at the nocking point?

Some nocks do go brittle with age.

Are you thinking the string is too narrow or too thick?

Go to Leatherwall and do a search I know there was a white nock that was failing a while ago several wrote about it. Search under brand name as well.

Simple test. hold your bow with string parallel to the ground. Click your arrow nock onto the string at your nocking point.
Firmly tap your forefinger onto the string. The arrow should fly off.
Nock should click on easily.
You should hear it click.

I only single serve but leave the tail longer under the serving if it is not thick enough.
I only use 12 strand Dyneema with 3D serving. Experiment then stick to the same set up.

Too loose no good, too tight no good.
