G'day from Armidale.

General discussions. Politics, scuttlebutt, whatever: you're getting married, changing jobs, got a gripe or a compliment, dying to get out with the bow etc.....

G'day from Armidale.

#1 Post by Afro » Mon Dec 09, 2013 8:17 pm

Hello everyone
I thought I would join this forum, as it looks good, the articles are well written and you all seem like a good bunch of fellas.

I have only done a bit of archery but want to do more. I like plain bows and wood arrows.
I have a RH Whagok recurve, #65 @ 28", but I'm having a go at making a flat bow, from a piece of Bamboo flooring. We just had the living area done and there were some leftovers

Years ago, I managed to kill a rabbit, on the run, with a little #25 recurve and a couple of years ago I got my first pig with the Whagok.

The arrow is longer than the little sucker
I'm a professional Gunsmith, so most of my hunting has been done with a smokepole.

Cheers,
Afro
Cheers :)

G'day and welcome to Ozbow Afro. Thanks for introducing yourself and posting the photo. Hunting with a bow is a lot different than with a bang stick that's for sure.

Later, I'll post some pics of the flat bow build, if you like.

Hi Afro and welcome to the site. You should fit in very well with your interests. I would be interested to see the bow you're making, if you get the time to take a photo or two.

To my knowledge, we have a few members who have a lot of experience with firearms, as well.
There is no use focusing on aiming if you don't execute the shot well enough to hit what your are aiming at.

good day.
My people had farms at Watson's Creek on the Manilla Road. They got out when a 0.22 cartridge almost cost more than a sheep.
I bought a lovely 0.303/0.25 SMLE from a gunsmith from a store in a little town near Armidale [little bit south].
Still have it. My 35 yo son hogs it.
Great area for foxes pigs and bunnies that's for sure.

Kevin
never complain....you did not have to wake up....every day is an extra bonus and costs nothing.

Gday Afro.
I used to live in "The Dale" a few years back. Lovely spot up on the range. I've done a lot of rifle hunting around those parts too. I look forward to seeing your hunting pictures and your flat bow.

Hi Kevin. You probably bought it from Uralla Sports and Toys when Peter Phillips owned it. It's now called Hunting Haven.

Welcome to Ozbow Tony. Looking forward to picks of your bamboo floor board build. Good to see you hunting with a bow mate, I like it much better than using a rifle.

Cheers…….. Rod

Welcome Afro, pull up a log at our fire and share a few yarns mate. As I get older I'm developing an interest in rifle hunting, be good to have our own gunsmith here for occasional advice.

Don't listen to them fellas Craig.

Doubles your fun. Pretty hard to beat an afternoon spent busting clays with the shotguns.

I know, I'm just a stirring old blasphemer, aren't I? But yeah, I see room for rifles in my life, too. You know, as you get older you develop more interests, and at least this is still hunting based!

You may be right, Boof. Anyway, it's just a thought. I don't have the money to buy a rifle, I have too many bow related things I want first.
