Bow-and-arrow history question: Killed by arrow on beach?

General discussions. Politics, scuttlebutt, whatever: you're getting married, changing jobs, got a gripe or a compliment, dying to get out with the bow etc.....

Bow-and-arrow history question: Killed by arrow on beach?

#1 Post by Benny Nganabbarru » Thu Oct 31, 2013 11:05 am

Hey, we're just doing some curriculum planning around Viking history, and I seem to recall, in the dim and dusty recesses of my feeble mind, something about some king - perhaps Viking - who was strolling along a beach when he was shot in the backside by an arrow, and killed. Now, does anybody know more about this? I hope to goodness that I am not getting muddled-up with some movie, but perhaps I am. Thanks!
It's the great, big, broad land 'way up yonder,
It's the forests where silence has lease;
It's the beauty that thrills me with wonder,
It's the stillness that fills me with peace.

Phew! I'm not going mad! I found it:

"Harold Bluetooth had once blockaded the ships of Svend in a bay. In the early morning he went ashore determined to destroy Svend and all his crews. While he warmed himself at a fire on the shore, one of Svend's men, Palnatoke, longbow in hand, crept up behind, and as Harold bent over the fire to warm his chest, shot an arrow that struck Harold in the rear end, went right up his body and protruded from his mouth. So perished the Bluetooth."

To be quite honest the Bluetooth in my car deserves the same fate!! :wink: :lol:
Politics is a game played by dishonest people to gain an unfair advantage!

Never under estimate the strength of a cornered coward.

Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but some abuse the privilege.

when I first read the post the image I got was - a Hagar the Horrible cartoon strip- just like ones on the back of the toilet doors at the Gladstone shoot. Nothing like a bit of entertainment whilst in the loo.
