grips on recurves?

grips on recurves?

#1 Post by andy80 » Tue Jul 02, 2013 7:20 am

Just wondering who uses one and what type? I find the grip gets slippery when shooting with sweaty palms.

Cheers.

Hi Andy, not a fan of grips myself but a couple of options for you are "sure grip" which is a rubber type sleeve available through 3 rivers via JCM. There is another self adhesive saddle type that sits on the belly side of the grip which may work for you. Otherwise get creative and make a nice leather one. Cheers Steve

I got hair on my palms, helps with the sweat, just don't ask how it got there.

You wouldn'nt notice the hair on other peoples palms, would you Rod? Got enough of your own!
Lately, if life were treating me any better, I'd be suspicious of it's motives!

Hey there andy80
I suffer the same problem as you. The rubber grip is fine whilst its new or the climate cool.
I grab a handful of dirt from where i am standing and squeeze my hand. The dirt will absorb the moisture from you hand. Open your hand and let the remaining dirt fall to the ground. Now your hand has a protective coating of dust. This will reduce the torquing and slipping of the bow from your hand.
Its simple...... but it works for me

There is a product, and I am not making this up, that some musicians use to help them hold their plectrum when fingers get sweaty.

It is called 'Gorilla Snot'.

Have a look on www.fqms.com

we both use the "posi-grip" on our recurves - soft to the touch and the dimples don't rub your hand, makes bow easy to hang on to when hand and bow are wet especially in the rain.

cheers

My S-Tips are checkered, and have leather grips on some other bows, and on the ones that are plain, I stick a strip of skateboard grip tape. It's self adhesive, and got a piece about 700mmx300mm from the surf shop for about $10. Enough to last for years.

Some real good idea's there, I'll try growing the hair on my Palms first.  Has anyone tried cutting some soft leather to shape and contact glueing it on??

easier to wind self amalgamating [silicone rubber] around the bow grip making sure you overlap each wind and really stretch it. Tape over each end to help it settle down. I just put two rings on the bow to guide my thumb and forefinger in the same way each time on my longbow whilst using a wrist sling so I do not really grip the bow or torque it.
