new to ozbow

General discussions. Politics, scuttlebutt, whatever: you're getting married, changing jobs, got a gripe or a compliment, dying to get out with the bow etc.....

new to ozbow

#1 Post by slinkymalinky » Tue Nov 13, 2012 12:52 pm

Just registered and thought I'd say g'day.

Found this forum thanks to Mark at Tradbits... I've been shooting for about 6 months but have struggled to find other trad shooters and trad hunters. My local club, North Albert south of Brisbane, has some great members and is very friendly and enjoyable. While there are a few trad bow members though, I've only rarely seen them at the club. There are some other recurve shooters but they gap shoot which isn't my thing.

Mark suggested getting on here to find out about shoots and gatherings so that's the plan. Then the plan is to spend some time with some experienced trad instinctive shooters and get some coaching/tips.

I'm currently shooting a 50# Hoyt Gamemaster (for hunting when I start getting into it... first hunt coming up in 2 weeks) and have a 46# Target Master longbow (for 3d and target) on order from White Wolf.

Cheers, Tony

Welcome to Ozbow Tony. Thanks for introducing yourself. I'm sure you will get to know quite a number of Trad archers as there are more than few that live in SE Qld.

G/Day Tony, seen you posting over on Bowhunters Group. Once upon a time North Albert had many Trad Shooters but they have dropped off a little. Introduce yourself to Greybeard when he shows up, very knowledable Man and a good Fella.

I'll be down there for North Alberts Christmas Party Shoot on the 25th, I'll try and talk a few more Folks into coming along as it's nearly the last chance to see everyone before Christmas

Thanks Gary,

I have a few things on my 'to do' list this weekend but I'll see if I can swing it. I've got a mate in Murwillumbah who I've got to drop some stuff off to so I might be able to get one of my chores done and then come and say g'day. I'll give you a call if I can swing something.

G'day from Sydney.

My name is Abraham and I've recently joined Ozbow. Really nice to be able to connect with like-minded people.

I've only recently started shooting and uses a 40# Frisky Longbow. Beautiful bow and feather light.

Hope you guys would be able to tolerate my 'silly' questions from time to time.

Regards,

Abraham

Tony and Abraham welcome to the site.

You will find a lot of interesting and useful information in the forums.

Tony, I have been a member of North Albert for many years. There is a group of older [trad] folk including myself that shoot most Wednesday mornings.

So that's where you've all been hiding  Unfortunately I still lead the 9-5 life (or 8-4 since I live in QLD but work to daylight savings time).

If ever it turns out I'm free on a Wednesday morning, I'll head over the the range and see if I can catch up.

Cheers, Tony

Aww, you guys shot in the rain today? I came past a bit before 9 and couldn't see anyone... Then it started ******* down and I went up to Pacific Bowmen instead

It looked pretty bloody dark in the rear view mirror on the way out, you must have all nearly drowned

I'm determined to shoot with you lot eventually...
