Re: use of aluminium and carbon arrows at trad shoots
Perry, time poor archers wasn't the motivation for the rule changes, making trad more beginner friendly was. Nothing puts a beginning trad shooter off more than heading out with a dozen shiny new woods and coming back with matchwood (and before you say move em closer we did and they got worse) alloys are more accessible, consistent and durable. These rule changes have been in place for 2 years and the game is still going fine. Why should a longbow shoot in a recurve division?

Re: use of aluminium and carbon arrows at trad shoots
Fair enough Jason, I understand and really do sympathise, I've given many sets of Arrows to beginners over the years and offered to teach a great many how to make Arrows as I believe making Arrows is as vital to teach a Beginner as is good Form. My Daughter and I sat down and we made Her Arrows together, I used 1/4" Ramin. Honestly in the time she Shot she never broke one. That set of Arrows has been handed on to a Friend's Son. She lost interest in Archery and moved on to more Girly pursuits long ago.danceswithdingoes wrote:Perry, time poor archers wasn't the motivation for the rule changes, making trad more beginner friendly was. I used to feel it unfair to be paired against Recurves and other Bows made of Modern Materials when I shot 3DAAA Trad Division with my Selfbow. Then I decided to rise to the Challenge and with no more than a change in attitude and some work on my Form Faults - guess what !!!!! I beat the Recurves and Bows made from Modern Materials. In Trad Division you are shooting against Recurves anyway, I don't think your point is is Valid.
I remember when I was a beginner I smashed many Arrows against a FITA Target Stand at close Range. I smashed more on Tree's soon thereafter when I began to Shoot ABA. It's part of the trials and tribulations of Learning how to shoot a Bow.
I understand a beginners path should be as frustration free as possible. I know it sounds Harsh, perhaps a 3DAAA Comp is not the place for beginners until they have acheived a degree of proficiency, 3D is an unforgiving Game. I have seen Coarses set by overzealous Range Captains with only the experienced Archer in mind. There is no need to set Targets in positions were Arrows will be smashed if one misses.

That Perry is Half the Fun. Drinks anyone, just straight, run out of ice. Cheers Roadie.
Re: use of aluminium and carbon arrows at trad shoots
As usual Perry you raise good points and you have on occasion made me and others with modern style bows look like dills, but with the large amount of newbies getting into it at the moment my thoughts are to get them set up and to shoot with a bit of confidence without seeing there gear bust up.3d after all is supposed to be as close as we can get to a hunt situation,it is indeed a good leveller.
3daaa has A very low amount of Trad shooters in it's ranks and that is why I haunt Trad shoots.
To get more people into our disipline is why I supported the allowance of these shafts and have seen benefits come from it,instead of being one of three in our club we now have six newbies who want to be part of it with more yet to be turned to the dark side.

Morning Nev.
Must post a photo of a destructible arrow.
The destructible X7. Note, it has shattered (brittle failure), and that was shot by a recurve.
When you discover the "indestructible aluminium arras" would you please post the details on here. You can get the odd bend out but not always.kerrille wrote:i want to know where i can get these indestructible aluminium arras from ,i'd hate to guess how many allies i bent first time out and as i make my own shafts and arras i think im well ahead in the price stakes .

Re: use of aluminium and carbon arrows at trad shoots
Been shooting bamboo arrows at trad shoots and hunting for three years or more. Any breakages are extremely rare. I wear the feathers out first. People get hung up about them not being absolutely straight because of the nodes being offset even when straightened and sanded.....it matters not....they fly very straight out to 50 metres.

Re: use of aluminium and carbon arrows at trad shoots
I got mine from Tigers Woods on ebay three years ago and the price has come down. Mine cost $100 for 100 with $50 freight and turned up exactly 8 days later as promised. I gave a few dozen away and made the rest up into target [big feathers], clout [small feathers], hunting [heaviest with four feathers so I got about 2 dozen of each and only two broke behind the points so I spliced on extra timber.
I really have not had to make another set of woods since then. I have renovated other sets but not made any new sets.
I think therse will last for years.

I actually have only discovered of late the best way to consume mead is to warm it. Wow that really made a difference.
Wolf
I found the good old Nuclearwave does the trick and the mead I bought even has the instructions of how long.
Roadie I would never neglect the appreciation I have of Whiskey of any kind but we can't limit ourselves. Life has so many things to offer.
bottoms up
