"The forgotten lake"..... a stumpin morning (pic heavy).

#1 Post by g_r » Mon May 14, 2012 12:33 am

Hello,

used this lovely Sunday morning to get out there, shoot some arrows, explore and enjoy nature in full bloom.

Thers an old lake i used to hike around with my dad in days gone past and i wanted to see how it looked like nowadays. 10 years ago there were some well used hiking-trails around it, but as people in general seem to loose interest in wilder places around here i was completely by myself. Apart from the normal signs of logging there wasnt any sign of other people around, wich is very special for my part of the world (except for one, well come to that later...).

Anyways, enough boring words here are some pics to let you come along if you like:

Squirrel watching me on my way in:

Beavers work:

First sight of the lake:

Carps cruising the shallows, the biggest ones were about 10#:

Pig-wallow:

Doesnt look used alot lately

Our beavers even go for oaks:

This gate once was used to hold fish back when the lake was still used for breeding carp (some 20 years ago):

Breakfast spot with a view:

Well, nowadays it seems you just have to look close enough and youll find s**t anywhere you look (or a diaper in this case):

The knife and sheath i made myself this winter:

I then decided to follow the little stream that goes into the lake upwards...

another pig-wallow

Worms and Buzzards gotta eat too. Or in this case worms gotta eat buzzards:

And in the middle of thick forest, at the end of the little stream there was this:

Equipment used:

Thanks for looking,
Axel

P.S. Sorry for the blurry pics, just had taken the small cam with me.

Nice place unusual for such a beautiful spot not to get more foot traffic. Is it an out of the way spot??

Boris,
it aint out of the way at all, from the main road where i left my car to the lake it was about 15 minutes walking. Its just that nobodys intersted in seeing things like that anymore, its much more convenient to sit at home and watch HD television without ticks, dirt or (god beware) even rain

Roadie,
No Bowfsihing allowed in germany. Would love to have a go at them with a rod and some bread crusts but im still trying to find out who owns the fishing rights and must be asked permission. Often with lakes like that its the case that some young people who dont even live nearby anymore inherited the fishing rights and dont even know about it....

LB Rod,
well, its Germany....not Siberia, you know 8)

Ill see this evening if i got a better pic of it, its an old partially rotten wooden fountain standing on the spring where all the water for the lake and the little stream comes from.

Hi Axel
I take it you probably aren't allowed to hunt the wild Boars?

This is a very beautifull place, pitty you cant at least shoot th carp  Whats the go with Fishing laws there?

Lucky you have such soft timbers for stump shooting, the hard wood stumps we have our way would take a week to dig an arrow out of

Thanks for the post top quality as usual

Hazard,
fishing laws here are beyond crazy.... Germany is the only country world wide where yout gotta have lessons and a test (equall to the driving license) to get a fishing licence. That licence only enables you to USE rod and reel for catching fish. But if you actually wanna fish somewhere, you either gotta own the lake/river, own the fishing rigths for it, or you gotta buy a permit/have the owners permit.
Only with the license and the permit for the particular water are you allowed to catch fish there.
But thats by far not the end of strange laws: In germany catch and release is actually forbidden! If the fish is above the Minimum Size you gotta kill it (thats not because we have to many, we havent!) thats because of the animal protection law here wich states that no animal can be harmed without good reason and the only good reason that matters in this case is for food.
Dont get me started on stupid german hunting and fishing laws....too late  .

I only use the Ace Hexheads for stumping and even with Oak or beech (wich are our hardest woods here) i dont have any problems apart from the occasional nock blowing out. I also use footings on my carbons to prevent them from splitting on newer and still hard oakstumps.
watch youre feet, you may never know where they might take you....

You are "gunna" love Australia when you move here. I guess that explains why there so many German expats and German tourists.
