Goal for the year is to get in close and personal with some fallow - work may be tough to get around though. Apart from that I'll keep looking for a blind and deaf sambar.
All the best this year in the bush this year,

any deer, another buff, 1st fox with bow, another tahr hunt and a primitive kill with gear i harvested and made myself- selfbow, rawhide/sinew string, stone points, cane arrows, wattle bark tanned deer hide quiver, no binos. it'll be a rite of passage for me.

also, shoot a rabbit with my 10 month old daughter. got one of those backpack carriers. that would be special.

good luck everyone

May sound strange but to nail a hare. They are really hard to get near where I hunt (everything is wild/hunted there) and small so a real challenge.

Firstly, gain access to a viable property within a 1/2 days drive from Townsville.

Secondly, take my crew camping, hunting and fishing on the above property.

Bonus goal, we all get first blood on the bows I made last year.......

Mikey's 40#@28" straight longbow
Jesso's 57#@28" D/R longbow
My 47#@28" straight longbow and my 57#@28" D/R longbow

If the first goal is not achieved then there may be a few more bows made and perhaps a semi-recurve form as well.

Attend Townsville District Bowhunters club to meet some people locally.

Attend one of the Traditional musters in Qld to meet some of the people from OZbow

Best of luck to you all.

Cheers........... Rod

I want to "Snuff a Buff" but I reckon that will have to be next year due to finances and mitigating factors, Blooding the up and coming Flatliner on a dirty great boar has a nice squeal to it

No LP it won't be a THS

I will just be happy with being able to shoot sometime this year. If I do manage to get shooting & then get a hunt, then that is going to be a very large bonus for me 8)

Go hunting again with my son and a few mates out west a wee bit past Cobar over Easter.... grab some more bunnies, foxes, cats, stinkies especially if they co-operate llike last year. I am especially keen to bag a couple more hares. I got my first two last year. They were enormous and tasted great in a bacon wrapped roast [sorry Rob]. I reckon it was even nicer than venison and I love venison.

I also want to set up the old tinnie my Dad left me and go inland fishin with my son and Stevo if he is not biking in the bush.

Make sure you leave the stupid ones for me - It may be my only hope!!!

spend more time flinging arrows and stumping whilst I pretend to hunt ......

Unless it was a nice sized Sambar Hind I'll probably do a lot of hunting with a lot more stumping ... and drop the string a bit less often ... if that makes any sense .

Maybe go a hunt some pigs again ? High Country or Qld will depend upon time and money.

Maybe New Zealand again ..... maybe Idaho for Elk ....

Lots a stumping , bivvy camping and flinging arrows all in the name of "hunting " ......

1/A crack at a 40'' billy is all I want, 34'' is me biggest to date and if I leave it to long there wont be any left in the wilderness.

2/I have a busy year ahead with the rifle shooting, state and national titles this year are in Qld so may be the only opportunity to afford to shoot the two in one year.

3/Try and get more people into the Trad scene in my area.

Best of luck to you all.

Water buffalo up north, self guided, I can't afford a guided trip. A pig or two would be a nice bonus. Anyone need a partner?

My ambition for this year and any more I survive to see, is to get back up the cape after an absense of some 30 years and see if I can tangle with a grunter with big hooks. Also be good to chuck a lure at a few barra again, but sigh -- alas alack, woe is me, this will probably be another fantasy unless my numbers come up in lotto, and thats as likely as me playing striker for the Matildas soccer team.

Hi All,

I’m just wondering how people went with their hunting goals for 2012...

I know I got close on a few occasions with some nice fallow bucks, but couldn’t seal the deal...

Well not only did I get back on the bow this year, I upgraded my PB's for both Goat & Pig not once, but twice through out the year.
I blooded the Newly acquired chally bow.
I submitted my kills to the club (Gladstone Bowhunters) & received Best Feral goat for 2012 & Male Bowhunter of the year
So on a bowhunting front, I ended up having a smashing year

Something tells me this year is a whole different ball game though
