Eye Surgery

#1 Post by Roadie » Fri Jul 01, 2011 12:11 pm

Morning All
Earlier this week I had some surgery on my right Eye. The operation: A few years back I was hit in the Eye by a knot of timber from some oregeon I was planeing. This caused the back of the Eye to be split (thats how it was explained to me). This meant my vision was empaired and there was not a lot that could be done about it except to wear glasses for reading. Well now the advances in Medical Tecnology means now that they could do something for me. The details of what was done is a little vague, As I was put under, But having needles in and around one's eye, having the eye removed from the socket so it can have micro surgery to repair the tear, then placed back, Is not my idea of a good time. I also had cataract surgery as well. I had the bandages removed this morning and so far all is OK. For the next 10 days I have wash the area around my eye with a saline solution every couple of hours as well as putting 2 lots of drops in every 4 hrs. Having drops in my eyes anytime is not my favourite thing to do,but if it helps the Healing process so be it. Sorry for rambling on but a few of you new I was having the opp, just wanted to let you know, at this stage All is OK. Cheers Roadie.

So glad to hear all seems to have gone well Grant!!! :D Make sure you keep up with the drops etc as you don't want any nasties getting in there to hinder the healing process.

All the best with that, Grant. I can't imagine it's very much fun and I understand your dislike of eyedrops. I can't use contacts for the same reason, I just can't apply them, nor take them out. Hope it all goes well, and isn't it amazing what medical science can do these days?

Hang in there Roadie. I know how painful eye operations are being an ol' Boily and having 'foreign' objects removed from my eyes with monotonous regularity., either sparks or slivers of metal that always found their way past helmut visors and safety glasses, etc. My sister just had an op. 'cause her eye was 'arcing' [ causing a bright arc of light in her vision] She had a tear in some part from a trauma injury many years ago, and which only now has manifested itself. She's doing well.Hope you mend well soon.

Sounds nasty roadie,I had a few eye injuries too but nothing like that.
Once dropped a bag of cement to have it puff up in the air and a lot went in both eyes.very painful it burns immediately cause of the lime and not to mention the grit.result was patches on both eyes for a week.
I hope your sight is better soon mate.

Hi Roadie,

I had a cataract removed from my right eye at the grand 'old' age of 43. Probably due to glare from the water whilst fishing. The left eye also has a cataract but its not as bad as the right eye was and the surgeon feels I should be okay for another five years or so.

I am not sure what type of lens you are using with your spectacles and I am assuming you will need new lenses in the coming months. If you opt for progressive lenses, please ensure that the lens chosen provides clear peripheral vision. Zeiss, for one, offers this type of lens. It costs a little more but it is worth the expense. I thought I'd save some money by not opting for it but now regret the decision.

Heed the docs advice and get well soon.
