Am I getting old and senile?

#1 Post by Mick Smith » Tue Jun 28, 2011 5:10 pm

While I was out in the shed this afternoon I decided to check out my gun safe, as it hasn't been opened for about 12 months or more. I wasn't surprised to see a small amount of surface rust forming on my old BRNO model 1 .22 as it has been quite moist down this way.

I've always used WD 40 instead of gun oil, as it works really well. Anyway, after cleaning the inside of the barrel and all the external metals bits, I noticed the smell. It wasn't a WD 40 smell at all.

Being as blind as a bat without my glasses, I went inside to find them. Upon closer examination, I discovered that I'd just finished cleaning my rifle with some clear finish Estapol. The spray can was blue, the same colour as my WD 40.

I immediately striped the rifle down to it's basic components and gave them a good soak in turpentine before giving them a brisk scrubbing. I then dried them off and applied some WD 40. I think I removed nearly all of the Estapol.

Is this a small taste of what's to come? I bloody hope not. :D

There is no use focusing on aiming if you don't execute the shot well enough to hit what your are aiming at.

Damn! the worst of these stories is that I cant laugh at others misfortunes as I have plenty of my own misdeeds that will remain under the rock I shoved them to.

I can sympathize readily as I have hated getting older, creakier and getting used to glasses.
I used to complain bitterly but vocally to myself until I was told that you either get older or die...........sorts out your pespective pretty quickly. I prefer getting older, especially after being diagnosed with cancer. I do see the funny side of this though.

Tip.....never leave a tube of Deep Heat in your bedside table drawer and always put the light on and wear your glasses when you pick up and use a tube of anything.

And I just received this little tale about getting old...
This is dedicated to all of those who are seniors, to all of you who know seniors, and to all of you who will become seniors.

"WHERE is my SUNDAY paper?!"
The irate customer calling the newspaper office loudly demanded to know where her Sunday edition was.

"Madam", said the newspaper employee, "today is Saturday. The Sunday paper is not delivered until tomorrow, on SUNDAY".
There was quite a long pause on the other end of the phone, followed by a ray of recognition as she was heard to mutter,

..."Well, s**t, that explains why no one was at church either!"

Well after laughing at my brother (redkev) for the last 40 odd years because he was born with glasses I now have to pay the pain.
I hate the damn things, cant get used to em, they are never in focus at the distance I need them to be in focus Ive tried bi focals, trifocals and even a blindfold. And whats worse, aparently according to the kids, I should stop using the force to drive by. So being a good father who listens and takes heed of his kids years of experience and schooling I now use brail to drive by...I really cant tell the difference ;)

dont worry Mick, I've seen Nev down a bottle of stuff he really shouldnt have and he knew what was in it.
Nev, It clearly stated on the label,
Contains Vanilla :P   8)
"I am the arrow..the arrow is me...together as one...I fly to thee"
"the stick maybe crooked and the string hath no form,
then married by bowyer, transforms when first drawn"
"twang....thud"

I wasn't wearing my glasses and sprayed clear lacquer into the lock of my security door because it was the same colour tin as the spray oil , another time I sprayed home brand fly spray onto a hot frypan thinking it was spray on cooking oil , again no glasses and same colour tin , mate was staying with us and put the fly spray back in the cupboard instead of under the sink

Hey Mick, before you forget where you put that No 1 you better send it along for me to look after :D

Happens to all of us mate , people with good eyes just don't appreciate what they have, A Bloke at work the other day snapped at me "can't you see that!!" to which I replied in a very gentle manner " I wear glasses for a f***** reason".....dunno about senile as you get older, but I definately have less tolerance :D

Cheers

Wow, my wife is very understanding and long suffering but even she would not agree to setting up the double bed in the workshop. I am doing my head in trying to figure out how the glue was in the bedroom or why the lube was in the other rooms.........just trying to make sure I do not repeat the mistake as I cannot be trusted with tubes of Deep Heat.
