Its not fair..

#1 Post by kimall » Tue Jun 21, 2011 8:36 am

One of the things that I often get from people when they find out I make my own bows is how lucky I am to be able to do that and yes I agree it has its pleasures and upside. However what we dont get to feel is that excited chase the posty everyday experience when waiting for a new bow to come in the mail.It has got to much and I have got a new bow coming soon I have the pics and cant wait to get my hands on her.We crossed paths a year or two ago but it was not to be at that time but she has returned looking better than ever with brand new limbs at exactly the same poundage I am already shooting.I am a sucker for a nice piece of Bocote(sp) and there is plenty in this one.
I just wanted to share my excitment..
Cheers KIM

Kim,

Maybe all the bowyers should organise a bow swap like they do on Pirates of Archery. That way we still get the fun of making the bows (although sometimes this fun wanes a little) and we get to get a parcel in the mail.

Here is a link to what they do on Pirates.

Who has made the bow you are about to get? Recurve or longbow?

Yer Steve that has some merits but I dont know Mark Horne would be all that excited about getting one of my humble offerings in the mail in exchange for one of his combo hunter 3 piece longbows.
This bow was not made for me but the limbs are new and if I was to order them I would have not changed a thing so I am very happy.

Kim, I agree that there are definitely different skill levels. Some of us might send a dud bow and get a cracker of a bow in return. Of course the opposite will also apply. If the joy is in the giving rather than the receiving, then no one would lose.

Tony, the postie probably enjoys the thrill of the sneak as he tries to make it down the street without being spotted. Just imagine 'The Goodies' running down the street dressed as a wheely bin, freezing to the ground when Tony looks out his front window. The only give away would be the small 'Ned Kelly' style peep slot in the front of the bin.

"However what we dont get to feel is that excited chase the posty everyday experience when waiting for a new bow to come in the mail."

I have to agree with that , anticipation is one of the main things with buying some thing new but I have to say that as a bowmaker having customers send me pictures of the beasties they have taken with their bows is a big kick , on the other hand seeing in the picture that the new owners have applied camo paint to a bow that I've spent hours sanding and then given several coats of finish so that it looks schmick a real kick in the **** , or at least it was but I've sort of gotten used to it now ,

Got the new bow yesterday but it was too late to shoot it so gave it a go today and after a fiddle and new string it is very nice to shoot. It is not as quick as the Defiant that I am sure of but I will put it through the chrony on the w/end to see. This is ok though as it is very accurate and I think I will make up a set of light carbons with feathers for use at the ABA shoots.Pic on the weekend.

Had a shot of this bow today and even though i havnt shot all that many bows, this is by far the quietest i have ever shot. Not up there with the defiant for speed but it is very nice to shoot. Dont look that bad either.

Yes it is VERY quiet the quietest I have shot too.About 175-180 with 10 grains per pound arrow so not slow but you do notice the arrow drop at over 25 yards compared to the Defiant. It will do though for a while. :D
