Whats your preferred B'head

#1 Post by Bill » Sat Aug 28, 2010 7:56 pm

So tell us, as to what is the favourite  Broadhead your hunting with and why :?: e. Mine is one that I make myself. But I do like and have hunted with all the other Aussie made heads. They have all done the job asked of them in the past, thats because they're all not the same, each can be hunted with in a different way at a different cost.........Bill

190 Ribtek. I have been using them since 1996 when they were first made. They are a good weight and size and are a very robust head.

Always used tusker but since I hardly get out these days I guess it wouldnt matter what I used. I was out at our club grounds today with a mate while he sighted in his hunting bow, ok it's a wheelie a 'monster.' Among the field point carbons was the practice head one gets if you happen to be rich enough to afford rage broadheads. It is just the same as the ' normal' rage heads but doesnt open on impact and was quite easy to pull out of the practice butt. He sighted in out to 70 metres and by far the most accurate arrow he used was the rage practice head and it flew dead straight and true. Now my financial situation being what it is it will be a cold day in hell before i could afford them but I was very impressed.

160 grain STOS.
It's the great, big, broad land 'way up yonder,
It's the forests where silence has lease;
It's the beauty that thrills me with wonder,
It's the stillness that fills me with peace.

There is no use focusing on aiming if you don't execute the shot well enough to hit what your are aiming at.

Outback supremes.

Why?

I can't recall not ever locating game once hit with one of these which is a big call
I have not needed to buy any for years as they last and can be used time and time again.
never had one bend on any game large or small ( rocks is a different matter)
fly like my field points

Blackstumps and Outbacks for me. They are both very tough well priced heads. Will be using the new Blackstump "Cape yorkers" on Bear and Elk in Colorado in two weeks.

145grn Ribbies (that's what they weigh up as on my scales, anyway. Give or take 3-4 grns), but have never blooded one. :( Not for lack of trying, either, just a lot to learn. Wish I'd started this at 20 instead of 40!
Lately, if life were treating me any better, I'd be suspicious of it's motives!

125gn Two blade Magnus currently the favourite in my lighter bow.
Solid little head that have not let me down. Have used Magnus Snuffers SS Snuffers and though they have not let me down on game have always ended up bent in the ferrule and/or blades at some point. Sent the last ten assorted bent ones that I had saved over a year or so back to Magnus and they replaced them with a dozen new 2 blade models (as requested) no questions. Good back up.

Black Stump Bushmasters in my heavier bow have been very good and again have never let me down. Great heads and very solid though yet to find any broadhead that kills rocks good and proper
If I can get my hands on some 200gn left wing Grizzlies they are the next option for some new arrows out of the heavier bow and those 300gn Terminators are very tempting too.

I have 125gr ribbies in wide and slim, and 125gr tuskers and I shoot those off VA shafts in 5/16". I've noticed a lot more stability since going to 4 fletch.

But overall I find no real difference as I can be equally crap with all 3.
