OLD MATE CRACKED

#1 Post by trash one » Wed Nov 19, 2003 11:28 am

Dropped my old 20 inch furphy camp oven mate I WAS CRANKY WILD AND MAD hope I can get it welded up, there have been some dam fine tucker cooked over years roast goat vegies and gravy and Judes favourite camel stew and the yarns spun around it.
Maybe I'm going crazy a crack in an old hunk of cast iron makes me think of these things and so many others.

How does a post change so much? We start with a cracked camp oven and end up with a gay hermit - no doubt about you lot!

Sure has been some yarns around that Ol' camp oven of yours Butcho. Hope you can get it welded. Jude still remembers that camel stew. At least I thought it was great.

Hay JEFF
We don't hold out much hope for old mate, I'll probly head down to mexico when I'm on holidays and pick another one, I have the address of the furphy mob in Shepperton, I think there is another mob down that way that make camp ovens maybe some one on here might know of them and be able to let me know where they are.
I'll have to drop in when I'm that way and say G'day JEFF and get on the grog again.

Butch,

That is sad news about the old mate. Hope the new one will be just as good. Will have to get together and try it out when you get it.

I have heard of a foundry in Ballarat that make an excellent camp oven. I used to have the name but not anymore. It was called .... & Sons. Col Barret got a couple of ovens from them and said they were excellent. I will email him and see if he has got their contact details.

Maybe some of the Mexicans on here might know the name of the foundry.

Mate, you can drop in anytime and I will supply the diet Coke. :D

Butch,

Got a reply from Col in the NT. The name of the foundry is Harding &Sons Ballarat Ph: 03 53321576. Not sure if they are still operating as I think I heard that the old fella was going to retire and the sons didn't want to continue. Worth giving the number a try though as they made very good camp ovens.
