Fallkniven F1

#1 Post by dmm » Tue Apr 06, 2010 10:02 pm

I'm new, and I hope I'm not out of line with this suggestion, but I have a Fallkniven F1, and I would thoroughly recommend it as a moderately sized knife, light enough for backpacking and camping, but strong enough for survival/bush craft use. It's made of a stainless steel called V10 (there are also 3G models) forged in Japan to a Swedish design requiring practically no maintenance. The Blade is a little thick for slicing vegetables etc. but it would probably be fine for skinning, although I've not used it for that purpose. I note Fallkniven do have an H1 model which is possibly better suited. I can testify that the convex blade does hold a razor sharp edge.

Most of the posts in "The Cutting Edge" seem to be for custom knives. One of the things I like about Fallkniven is they aim to make the best quality production knives, and that makes me feel better about using the thing because if I loose it, damage it or just do a really horrendous job sharpening it, I can get another.

Here is a link to a forum that will tell you more than you ever want to know about the brand. Peter, the knife maker occasionally posts here sometimes.

Personally I don't think they are overly expensive, but I guess that's a personal perspective. If I were buying a new one (and I did recently order a 3G model), I'd get it from here.

It's a US site, but charges only $12 to ship to Australia. I have no financial interest in this store.
Right now the exchange rate is good and they are charging ~$112 USD

I make some knives and the Fallkniven F1 is one of the few knives that I would purchase, in fact I did (at a good price). :)
