First Knife

ok here it is for those that have asked.
Learnt lots. would do things different next time.
Not sure its a particularly hard finish.

Made from a lump of spring steel. work mate chopped out the blank for me and ground the rough main edge. I ground and shaped the upper edge and sanded down all the ruff marks.
Engraved a few things, wasnt happy but it did not matter as most would be hidden by the scales anyway.
Vic ash scales died with a green blue . Lots of applications with lots of sanding in between to give it that distressed look. Not happy with the final polish, tis life.
Pien sorat the pins but was going to mess the wood up too much.. allready created the fated rings :( so it will do as is..


just gotta make the sheath now :)

Well Im hardly worthy of collecting your fillings and I certainly appreciate the encouragement.

We did cherry red the knife and dunk it in engine oil but thats about the total as far as tempering went.

the criss cross pattern was done with a dremel cut off disc. I marked the ends all around the spine taking great care to tighten the distance around the inside of the finger hold (dont think you can see this) and widen it around the end. An attempt to make it look in perspective. then I very very carefully cut between the two marks with the dremel. It was tricky to see what I was doing and tricky to make the ends meet..or was that not meet. I think a file would have been more accurate.

I was very pleased with how well it sits in the hand, it gives the urge to upercut and stab something :oops: :twisted:

Would you believe it. I show it to the family and Mrsstringnstik seems to think its hers!!!!

Ill bring it along on sunday tony but Ill doubt ill have the sheath done and thus it wont be on me hip. But seriously this is one of those across the chest holstered knives :)

Seeing that your first one was so good, I can only wonder how good they will be after a few more tries.
