Re: And Another
I can't say that I like it much as a knife, but WOW. That takes a serious amount of patience. As an art work it is impressive.

Re: And Another
looks like hard work and whilst i can appreciate the time and effort, i have to agree with steve here and say that i don't particularly like the knife. just not for me.
certainly good workmanship though.

i wish i had the patience and knowledge, to do one like that,i like it..............Rod
Re: And Another
You probably do have the patience Rod. It is just a matter of digging in and having a go. I would not be surprised if this was a first effort also.

Kim,after seeing the quality of the blades you've done.........you win ..........Rod
Re: And Another
Yeah it looks "pretty " I put it in the category of Fantasy knives , like those cheap knives you see in Tobacconists or Barber Stores .
As the guy said ,.,. yeah , he has done it , but probably wont do it again . His time would be better off spent on getting a nice neat grind .

Re: And Another
I know I do not know how to make a knife and I expect to get a mild hammering here [probably deserve it] but I cannot see the knife being used so why do it?
I am a bit with Coach here. Those fantasy swords and knives give me the screaming yips.
To me a knife is a knife if it is functional and beautiful....you gotta use them...it is more important to how it fits the hand, how it works and keeps an edge to me rather than being pretty or clever.

Re: And Another
you gotta have fantasy knives and swords to fight hobbits i would'nt buy one,but i'de like to make just one,to see if i could and just have it as a display knife, conversation piece. .................Rod
Re: And Another
Kevin I am not about to hammer you.(even if you do deserve it) Do you mean that the design could not be used because it wont work or that it is unlikley that the owner will use it as it is too flash. It is a bit like arrows though isint that you can spend hours on a set of arrows with footing and cresting and they dont fly any better than plain timber.
I do both(make arrows and knives sort of) and find IMMENCE pleasure from doing so.I have never NOT taken a shot because I didnt wont to lose a flash arrow and at times when the need arose I have used a custom knive to open a can of tucker.Tools are tools even if they are flash. If I make a knife like this one and use it to skin game is it still a fantasy knife?
The other thing with making interesting stuff like this is you discover techniques you can use on the other everyday knives made later.I dont want anyone to change their opinion about this just giving mine.
PS Coach you used to hiss and spit when I did file work on a blade but then I THINK I saw some on one of yours.
Cheers KIM

Re: And Another
I dont THINK I have ever done that ,in fact I thought I praised it , but , hey , prove me wrong I like file work ,, simple and elegant if not taken too far , and yes , I have done a tad myselfkimall wrote: PS Coach you used to hiss and spit when I did file work on a blade but then I THINK I saw some on one of yours.

But for godsake , Lattice work in a knife ? To me thats just overkill .
