Third knife

#1 Post by hillbilly WA » Fri Jan 16, 2009 1:52 pm

Hey guys
Well Vaughn (Hills Twinky) and i got into the shed again, and this is the result.
Also, its the first knife thats sharp :D  , i used benchstones instead of the whetstone, and got it pretty much shaving sharp, which i am ecstatic about (but had enough self-control to stop shaving hair off my leg- unlike vaughn :P ).
The steel is circular saw blade, pins are 'alloy' nails, and the wood is Jarrah.
Does anyone know how i should finish the wood? I have seen good results with tung oil...
Thanks,
Carl

Nice knife :D Tru oil gun stock finish brings timber up beautifully, pricey but the 100ml bottle should do a couple of knives if it doesnt dry out between use.
I like the un polished look of the blade. Steve

Well Done , it looks good , and even better that it is sharp
I usually just use Olive Oil for my handles . I sit the handle in a jar overnight to soak some up , and just re oil periodically .
I also like the file work on the spine :D Must get my butt back in the shed and make a few more ,, just too hot to be in there ATM .
Oh , and sand the handle down to about 1200 if ya want a sheen to it .

It is a great knife mate! But ill have you know that anyone on the property at that time pretty much have a bald spot on their leg... though mine may be biggest  .

Wow Carl, your really starting to get the hang of this, huh? Well done, mate. You must be very proud of that. The file work on the spine is excellent, and I like the overall shape of the knife. It's a bloody beauty!
Lately, if life were treating me any better, I'd be suspicious of it's motives!

Great work mate. Now you will have to make a sheath for it!

Well done.
