I love Hols next project time.....

#1 Post by kimall » Thu Dec 25, 2008 11:42 am

I love holidays it gives me a chance to get into the shed to try all the things I have seen on the net since last time I was down there. This was something I have been wanting to try for some time so it was really good to finally get into it.
It all started with one of these(a teacher at school ounce said I was a sharp as one of these).........................................

I have seen guys over seas turn these into knives and had collected some a long time ago and had then in the shed so was keen to give it a try.
First I welded it onto the end of a piece of bar to be used as a handle when hammering on it on the anvil. You can just hold it with tongs but Santa didnt bring any so I use this method.

An hour later and some playing and we end up with this, its a bit rough yet but should grind up real nice and as its the first one I am very happy.I will keep you all posted with pics as I get along a bit but have to go to the inlaws for lunch now.

Very nice. I like how the twist goes the whole length of the handle, the guys on youtube only have a few twists which doesnt look as good IMO.

Not sure Dylan what steel it depends on who you ask but toomorrow I plan on making one with an L6 centre core so there will be no worries about the edge then.
