One for a mate...PIC Heavy

#1 Post by kimall » Wed Dec 26, 2007 5:33 pm

I made this for a mate that has almost everthing hunting related and is a bit hard to buy for.The blade is L6 and not sure what the handle wood is but it is very old and the hardest I have ever worked with.I also made the box out of some other timber I had here not sure what it is either but is a hard wood also and had nice grain. It was cut from a single piece on the band saw and ground to the right dimensions and put together to make the box and it has a cypress pine piece added for his name. This knife was totally planed before starting and I stuck to the plan the whole way and am really happy with the results. It is raining today so not great pics but will get some more in a week or so when I get it back off him.
(So was Graham) :D

It's a thing of beauty Kim.
I especially like the timber in the handle, very nice.

Very nice Kim!!!

It's a shame you don't know what the handle and box woods are. The handle reminds me of Gidyea or dark Budgeroo and the box Mulga.

Excellent work, Kim! You should send a couple of pics to the magazine, "Knives Australia" They'd be very interested in your work. I told Coach the same thing, you guys are artisans and should show the world what you can do! :D
Lately, if life were treating me any better, I'd be suspicious of it's motives!
