Old to new...

Hi all,
Just wanted to show you a knife I made a couple months back. Have become quite interested in most things medieval recently and keen to expand my skill set somewhat, so I decided to have a crack at a medieval dagger. Using an old buggered file, I first annealed the thing so I could actually work it with the tools I have here.
Got the shape nice and then gave it a good polish to remove the file marks before it was hardened. Being tool steel it is oil hardening so I used canola oil for the quench. After hardening the blade was then tempered for 2, 1 hour cycles, to get a straw colour on the blade ( mid 50's Rockwell).
Once the blade was done I started on the handle. It is red Ironbark made with a Japanese style hidden half- tang (if un glued could be dis-assembled) with brass ricasso and end cap.
Cheers,
Colin
