JCB KNIVES EMAIL UPDATE JULY-SEPTEMBER 2004

Hello again everyone,

10 little fingers, 10 little toes ... Well, almost.
In July, I almost lost a finger in a silly workshop accident. I am glad to inform you that the injury is healing well, and I am very much back in business, though somewhat behind time with orders. I have nothing but praise for the doctor who attended to the injury at the time. His handy work now sees me with barely a visible scar on my finger. Nerve damage remains, but I am learning to work around it.

New litarature
When someone buys a knife, I have always provided a certificate of origin / authenticity aka spec-sheet. I am now including leaflets with information - Maintenance and Care of Your Knife, Sharpening, Safe Use of a Knife & Sheaths. Its nothing very detailed; just something to read when you're bored !

ONTO BIGGER AND BETTER THINGS
In the last few months I have been working hard at breaking new ground with fresh ideas, techniques, skills and styles. I have rebuilt my forge, learnt to forge bigger blades, now up to 10+ inches with a new method of clay-backed quenching that produces bizarre new styled hamons and Heat-Treatment details on the blade.

A lot of exhaustive testing has also gone into the process, to ensure that these new ideas don't interfere with the performance of the blades. 11 forged blades (2 of them 10inches long) have been sacrificed in ABS-style destructive testing. Unfortunately, I forgot to get any photos of the process. Its a fascinating subject, and I can promise photos in the future when I organise a period of blade testing. It really does give you confidence in the performance of the blade.

WEBSITE UPDATE COMING SOON
In response to friendly hints from some of you to PLEASE update my website, I am organising a major overhaul of the jcbknives.com site. This should be done in the next 2-3 weeks and will feature horrendous no's of pics optimised for easy loading and viewing, including those of you cursed with mind-numbingly slow dial-up connections (like me at home).

The update will include an AVAILABLE page updated monthly and the gallery will be filled with knives sold, and a classification of all my styles of knives. It became obvious to me when doing this update that I probably make TOO MANY styles of knives. But it is also clear that it is the forged Bowies that have dominated my work andsales in the last 1 year.

KNIVES FOR SALE
Instead of posting links to these knives, I will wait till the website update happens. From now on, I will provide updates linking you to the AVAILABLE page rather than posting them on thiese emails.

I also advertise in KnifeNetwork forums and Bladeforums from time to time, but the intention is to link those ads to the AVAILABLE page for consistency.

SOME RECENT WORK
While waiting for the site update, here are some knives I made recently, for your viewing pleasure. These are some, not all of my recent knives. None of these are for sale - they are just eye candy.
