Mulga and Osage handle knives
[img]
Hello all,
Have attached a few recent knives I made with Mulga handles harvested in the Cunnamulla area and Osage Orange wood harvested in Castlemaine Vic. Have recently started making sheaths which is half the fun . Looking at attempting some self bows soon to appease the gods (and Hilly) for my wheel affliction.

I really like the Mulga. Oddly enough, I was looking at some at Cunnamulla just recently and wondered about it's suitability for these kinds of uses. Got me answer, now!
Lately, if life were treating me any better, I'd be suspicious of it's motives!

Thanks for the kind words, the knives are heat treated to 60 rc by Hills Heat treatment in Victoria. A knives edge holding ability is generally related to the steel type and heat treatment process so an accurately controlled furnace is needed to get consistant results, particularly with the fancy stainless steels.
keep up the great posts.
Does anyone have any plans /dimensions for a flat bow using possibly spotted gum?
Thanks again

Thanks for the feedback, Lots of smaller handle pins keeps the timber more stable and contrasts with the timber more than thicker fewer pins.

Hello all,
Have attached a photo of a recently finished knife with a Mulga handle and D2 blade, this is a size and style which I have found to be one of the best allround knives that I have ever made. I will be producing more of this very popular well ballanced knife due to its high demand and very positive customer feed back.
Regards
Swami
