No more archery, I have more important things to do

Got a joke too good to keep to yourself? This is where to put it. While all the other Campfires are expected to be reasonably 'serious' in nature, this is where we let our hair down.

Paste the following link into your web browser. You will see that I no longer have any time for building bows as I must continue the good work that I have started.

Your humble servant,

Alan, You don't think that I put it together do you. It is just a fine example of viral marketing. The owners claim 14 million views in 8 weeks - pretty amazing when you think about it. Make you own version and send it to your Mum. Let her know that you are spending all your retirement spare time wisely helping the masses

Hue, you didn't try it on dial up did you?

Otis, don't you hate over zealous IT staff. We had Google blocked a while back, as well as the College website where I work - the guys got a bit carried away that day. You are not missing much...

In regards to over zealous IT monitoring blocking there is a usually a fairly easy way around this.

Go to Google, click on language tools, use the convert language (doesn't matter what languages you choose to convert) plug in the url you want to go and off you go.
Common sense; so rare it should be considered a superpower.

Steve:

Didn't think you'd done the whole thing, but finding it and customising would have taken some time. Sending it to my mother won't do any good - no computer, no internet. There are still such people in the world - even in Australia.

Maybe I should have shared this one with some more computer savvy mates!

Otis your connection speed must be slow or you are really impatient :)

It is an advertising campaign for a broadcasting company. The method of advertising is called viral marketing. The idea is that you see the video, think 'this is a really cool concept', customise it (which takes about 15 seconds) and send it onto a couple of mates. They send it onto a couple of more mates and post their silly picture, and before 8 weeks is up, 14 million people have seen the advertising campaign. Try getting that many people to see an add on TV. There is only one downside to this type of marketing - you have to have a heap of computer power ready to go as the number of downloads in the first week is in the thousands, and by the end of the first month the downloads are into the millions.

I think the success of this campaign that is different to all others is the fact that it can be personalised to give you an ego trip. Someone may pass on a link to a site that is cool, but many more will pass on a link to a site that is really cool and about ME. It got me anyway.

Oh well, it seems to be wasted on most of you so I will go back to building my bows

It did nothing for me, and if you have to be computer savvy to get something out of it, I'll stay a computer dummy.
