Dimensions of Posted Photos
I would like to ask all of you to do what you can about restricting the physical dimensions of posted photos. Please try to restrict them to a maximum of 800 pixels wide. This will mean we don't have to scroll back and forth to see images so big they stretch the screen display. Length is not the problem, we are used to scrolling down
There are a number of programs which allow you to resize and reduce images. I use Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0 but there are many cheaper alternatives. What do others use?
thanks,
Erron
(Admin Edit 600 pixels wide would be even better - Regards Grahame)

My pics are around 5meg but after you upload them to url site(www.photobucket.com) it makes them smaller then I edit them in the url site to make them a more suitable size.
If you post a photo and its to big you can go back to that url site and strink it without editing it here.
Adam
did that make any sense.

Hi All
I edit in both Photoshop and PaintShop Pro on a regular basis - and a plethora of other applications on other occasions.
In both cases for images that I am posting to the web I resize them to approx 400 pixels wide and then save them as jpeg's with a quality setting of 50% (or midway on the scale).
That way they end up around 20kb to 30kb.
The total workflow is probaly around 10 sec's
It may not sound much but at the moment I have in excess of 500Mb of photos on my Web suppliers server and they charge by capacity and by traffic. So a bit of judicious work repays me in dollars. On the other side of the coin people hate to wait for downloads so the smaller they are the quicker they download and the happier my customers are.

I use Photoshop also. I can start with a 5 meg pic, and end up with a 65KB file (or smaller) either 800x600 or 640x480 (which I think is ample for web veiwing) and quality at the 50% mark is just fine. Great small size while still keeping it crisp and clear.
Anybody having problems, feel free to send me your photos and I will crunch em for you.

I use photoshop 7.0, but if I intend to post/ email a pic, i just turn the raw file quality on my camera down and it will reduce the file size from about 8mb down to around 100kb. reducing physical size from there is just a matter of opening and saving as a jpeg in MS paint.
If a definate size is required, then its adobe all the way.

Easy Thumbnails
I use a FREE utility called Easy Thumbnails.
Check out www.fookes.com/ezthumbs/ - after installing this puppy its matter of specifying the settings (dimension, % quality, file suffix) and then you're away. It enables right click - so you can right click on a pic and select easythumbs and presto you've got your scaled down version. You can select multiple files at once. Very handy for emailing photos around.
Cheers
