Why deal with Australian based suppliers?

I posted this at another site but it is important to give praise where it is deserved. One of the young blokes in our club Mountain Archers was given a Martin Longbow by his Dad. This kid is very responsible and looks after his gear. This kid is very mature and can be trusted to act as field captain...

Re: Starting a shop

Do not ignore the fact that many visitors will be turned on by the gear as an art form as much as anything else. When you see the calibre of the artwork on sale you will quickly understand. Most of the stuff there will end up as high end décor and talking points. Steve, if you have any PNG contacts ...

IronFest at Lithgow April24, 25, 26 [2014]

This is not really an archery event but a lot of fun. Many complain that I do not remind them about this event. My archery club runs a three day come and try at this festival. Google "IronFest 2014" for more details. Lot of medieval re-enactors; jousting tournament; medieval village; men a...

Thanks.
Very interesting.
Whilst only a minor thing which really does not detract from what appears to be a reasonable dissertation I cannot understand why someone would choose an arbitrary three fifths of anything in those times. I found that component to "jangle" my sensibilities.

Breathe easy Anthony.
Steve picked up your arrows a few minutes ago.
I went to archery this morning at the club and popped in to the new store on the way back home.

The new sales point looks great. Very classy. Some interesting gear made by some great crafts people.

Re: Bare shaft tune ?

I totally agree with Grahame. I have bare shafted all my arrows out to my most commonly shot furthest target distance, 60m, all the way down to 5 metres whenever I changed any part of my rig but especially at the beginning with a new bow or arrow set up. I have shot with 4 small low profile 2.5 inch...

Simple test. hold your bow with string parallel to the ground. Click your arrow nock onto the string at your nocking point. Firmly tap your forefinger onto the string. The arrow should fly off. Nock should click on easily. You should hear it click. I only single serve but leave the tail longer under...

Bad advice. Chlorpyrifos is an organophosphate nerve poison. It is related to Sarin gas and most of the nerve poisons used in gas warfare. Retards the development of the brain in children and many other question marks, raised by the US EPA and outlawed in the US. Not to be used in and around the hou...

Bob, with a stash of old yellow you would never run out of mates. I love the stuff. That is a pretty straight piece compared to most, lateral pieces always have problems due to the effects of gravity ......not a super bad problem to have in hand Bob. I checked out Carba Tec. They sell a Merlin two prong for $80. Others for $180 odd plus $450 odd and almost $700 That is a pretty good range. Never used that Brand but expect they would be reasonable on the basis that I have not seen or bought rubbish from Carba Tec. Hare and Forbes list a two pin m...

find out where the rest of the tree is and any mates might be a more urgent task. Tell the occupants if they want the tree(s) trimmed there will be a large crew to do the deed. It will be finished in minutes.

timber is not being attacked and eggs laid in your shed mostly. The eggs were laid in the standing/felled but green tree. technically the borer larvae will die as the timber dries. Little risk that bringing in infested timber will start infestation and damage in other timbers. You can buy a quality ...

Australian hardwoods have in the main very narrow sapwood regions. If you had a couple of pointy spare straight sticks it would have been easier to jam them into the ground for defense against mounted enemy than trying to stick in a couple of recurved sticks.

My relatives went to England with Guillaume le Batard. Pictures of the time/anecdotal evidence closer to the time [Bayeaux Tapestry] show long as in tall bows plus those slightly crooked. Those helping Guillaume went back to France and Switzerland. Many later used bows that were long. Surely the win...
