Questions about carbon
I've had request for carbon limbs :? ,,,, Don't know a thing about it, so if those of you that have used carbon could direct me to some threads or share your opinions on things like where best to get it from? Do you use it instead of glass or as a lamination instead of wood? What difference does it ...

Demo Bow, for me
I get quite a few people coming to my place to try out my bows and the lightest draw weight I had until now was 42#, so I've made one that the ladies and youngsters should be able to shoot. Must say I don't mind flicking a few through it too, it's almost effortless and the groups are good. Bow stats...

Re: And so the recurve journey begins....
Bummer Rod, and it was coming up so nice too. I gave up trying to use the tiller blocks on the recurves cause it just felt like there was too much tension created trying to bend the whole limb blank to get them on. I had visions of the block tearing the center of the out of the limb, never would hav...

That's spectacular Bob, great piece of Burdekin plum, never seen such light tones in it. Puts the slab of BP I have to shame, very little feature in my piece.
Great work Bob.

Some of my latest
Been a bit slack posting lately so here's a couple of my latest. The first one is an MC2 62" 40#@28". I put together with a friend who has now returned to Germany to get married and live the quiet life in a small coastal town. He wanted to learn how it was done so stayed with me for a few ...

Sounds good, maybe we could do the Sunday morning shoot at the club on Vico Rd and then retire to my place for a few, let me know if that works for you guys and I'll try and round up a couple of other trad fella's and budding bowyers.

Re: Osage / Wenge Take down
Beautiful Bob, just beautiful, it's a bit of a shame the Osage will darken up but it will still look great.
That's one good thing about Conkerberry it tends to keep it's yellows even with weathering but you can't get big chunks like that to work with.
Great stuff Bob.
Cheers, Rob.

Good on ya Scott, glad to see you finally posted some of your exceptional workmanship. Another way to acquire bow woods
A while back I found my self running out of Black Palm laminations and set about trying to find some more. The last piece I had was given to me by a guy I know that is into making self bows, he turned up one day with a stave he had rescued from a dead tree his neighbour had removed. Black Palm is a ...

Re: New Limb Form.
Going great guns Wayno, I wouldn't be too concerned about your limb blank alignment at this stage, it all looks pretty good in the photos to me. The next step is one of the critical ones though, put a weighted string line over the approximate center of your limb tips and looking down vertically over...

Great work Bob, excellent effort for a first. After a few more you'll probably do what I did and get braver about getting rid of those flat surfaces on the riser (makes them look more streamlined and sporty). On a different note I recently worked out that "Red Palm" is Coconut wood,,,, :ro...

What to do with offcuts
You guys that make a few bows must know how hard it can be to throw away those small seemingly useless offcuts of quite often spectacular woods,,, well I can't bring myself to chuck them out. It was my daughters 21 st birthday recently and now it's her best friends 21 st, so this is what I made for ...

Re: First ever limb failure
I am a little confused with the above are there multiple core laminations? 30 thou is about one and a half times the thickness of the cardboard used in a corn flakes box. Yeah Daryl there are three core laminations, the one on the back of the limb is a 1"/.001" wood taper that opposes the...

Re: First ever limb failure
Yo, Yeoman, no the split is around 15-20 thou from the belly glass and about 80-90 thou from the glass on the back of the limb. In fact the split is so uniform and tidy I decided to remove the nock tip reglue the split and pop it back into the form and it's come out looking quite good. I'll make a n...

Re: First ever limb failure
Hey Wayno how would ya be? well it's called 'Tassi blackwood' but it grows right up the east coast and was sourced localy so I don't reckon that's it. Besides it lives In Mount Gambia. Rod,, Dry fired  ,,, maybe but you would expect the limb to split the other way from string impact. I've ...

First ever limb failure
Well it finally happened and it's got me stumped, the glue didn't fail, the Tasi Blackwood lamination failed in spectacular fashion, it split almost perfectly through the center of a 30 thou parallel lam so straightness of grain certainly wasn't the problem. The young fella that owns it said he had ...

A special bow for a special girl
My daughters twenty first birthday is coming up so thought I'd do a bow for her with a few extras. It's kept me busy for a few hours that's for sure and I'm yet to make the hard case and arrows to go with it but she's worth it. Bow stats: Flatline Raptor, 58'' n-n, 36#@28". Timbers: Riser; Sand...

One off the shelf, Flatline MC2
This is a bow I started making for a young fella that came around with his dad and ordered it, but apparently "Mum", who I received a call from when I was about half way through the build was not informed of the investment and promptly cancelled the deal. So she's up for sale. (The bow not...
