Re: Is this timber any good for a bow?
immerse the timber lengthwise into water, do not totally let go. Mark where the water level got to. Divide the wet length by the dry length and multiply by a thousand. This will accurately measure the number of kilograms per cubic metre. Hamish, Tasmanian Oak is a trade name for a number of similar ...

alcohol does not dissolve crystals Grant? Then it is really lucky for you that one of your mates is a pest controller matey. They usually prescribe an anticoagulant. Re: Bilaminate Bamboo Flooring Bow.
Firstly bamboo has been used for arrows and bows for a long time. Secondly these are sealed by most and resealed if necessary otherwise they would get heavier being hygroscopic. Houses are not climate controlled environments or as controlled as you would like to think. I have measured the moisture c...

Re: How do I fit this point?
I made a gauge to mark on each blank end to make sure I was putting the shaft into each point the same distance each time. It was simply a piece of timber that I marked. I then cut a piece of tube that would fit over the shaft. I then used that to mark each shaft with a pencil to make sure I fitted ...

I got one of those Go Pro cameras you can attach to a helmet or use under water. I want to use it primarily to take clips for work training but my first use will be trying to take moving pix of shooting arrows. It will not be slow motion but I figure it will still be interesting. Grahame, I thought ...

My father gave me my first rifle when I was twelve and we both hunted together on the family farms up near Watson's Creek. My wife was first generation city [prior generations were country folk]. Re: G'day from Armidale.
good day. My people had farms at Watson's Creek on the Manilla Road. They got out when a 0.22 cartridge almost cost more than a sheep. I bought a lovely 0.303/0.25 SMLE from a gunsmith from a store in a little town near Armidale [little bit south]. Still have it. My 35 yo son hogs it. Great area for...

0.38 calibre spent cartridge cases with a bit of lead in them work well. I have also used 0.303 cases with even more lead shot/split sinkers.

Re: Ever been chased by a snake?
it is worse when crawling in the roof or subfloor coming around an L corner and you come face to face. I would not have won that race. Each time the snake flared up then settled. Hard to crawl backwards. Gets your attention real quick. I remember hearing one lady talking to her husband on the phone ...

Re: Recurve, Longbow, Deflex/ Reflex bow nomenclature.
The horse has bolted. We do not get to decide. Look at all the long bows our Chinese friends are selling on Flea bay. Being accurate in descriptions maintains previous folks views on names. After thousands buy Chinese longbows, whatever we say now will be forgotten because of the weight of numbers w...

Big problem with those self loading quivers is your mates stand next to you freeloading and the arrows do not self adjust for spine.......they fly everywhere and then they bitch about dodgey arrows.
