Re: 1 question a week for 10 weeks
The static release or the pull through release? Which type do you use? My release is dynamic, in that my hand moves back a little.. about a few centimetres, till I feel my index finger on my ear. When my finger hits my ear I have a little pause then draw my elbow back as far as possible, exaggerati...

Shrew Classic Hunter
Well, I'm very excited as I just got news on Friday that courtesy of a good friend in the US a Shrew Classic Hunter (made by Greg 'Java Man' Coffey) is on it's way to me  It's a 54" take down, 53#@28", elk antler tips and accents on the riser with prairie rattler skin on the limbs...

That's really neat Grahame. I hope you don't mind I intend to shamelessly repost this elsewhere  I was actually surprised by the tally of N.A. animals taken. Not nearly as many deer taken as I would have imagined, but a heap of pigs, goats and rabbits... he could have been a Queenslander.. I g...

Re: The carbon shaft dilemma
Another convenience of carbons/al is the screw in tip. Makes it very convenient to tune if you're fiddling with head weight. And a dozen carbons can be 12 field arrows, 12 hunting arrows and 12 stumping/small game arrows with a couple minutes of unscrewing and screwing. I do really appreciate all th...

Re: Is this still instinctive or is it gap shooting?
Mick, my little .02 is that you are still shooting instinctively but you've done the thing that should never be done and made a conscious correction. If you believe guys like Asbell, you're handicapping yourself in the long run by doing that. I had an almost identical scenario with my instinctive sh...

DIY Side Quiver
Hey guys, So a while ago (I think I did a little post about it) I made my own side quiver out of an old field pack I had lying about. I got the design from an American chap through Traditional Bowhunter Magazine and I've been really happy with it. Here's a pic I took while stumping this morning (you...

Re: Converting longbow into 2 piece takedown?
Cheers for the replies fellas. Daryl the bow has a pretty heavily dished grip as well as being shaped on the sides. I'm not sure if the Bingham would work? It looks like it needs a classic straight handle, is that correct? Rod, we should have a chat about your ideas for a jig. I have a week or two l...

Converting longbow into 2 piece takedown?
Hey guys, I have a one piece long bow that I'm rather happy with, I just wish it was a 2 piece. Are there any viable options for conversion or should I just start saving for a factory takedown? I thought the socket/tenon method used by Jim at Big Jim's Bow Company looked simple enough, but he does h...

Re: Being Competitive with instinctive shooting method?
my question is, how do I compete against field archers that use this technique? So, I see three possible solutions for you. The first is practice a lot at long ranges with instinctive shooting. The second is to keep doing what you're doing and accept you won't be competitive past about 30m (That's ...

Re: Advice on a little bow for the better half
I can recommend the Samick Sage. I bought one for my wife. Cheap, has been problem free for the 18 months she's had it and it's inexpensive to buy heavier limbs if she becomes so inclined. Excellent value. Just make sure you buy a fastflight string to go with it, the factory string is the worst bows...

Hey guys, I've bought a few of Dave Petersen's books from him but it's always expensive getting things shipped here. Barta Longbow (Made by Martin)
Hey guys, selling my Tred Barta Bow (made by Martin Archery). It's 64", 70# @ 28". It's 4 years old. I've never hunted with it, just shot at the range and a few stumping days. It has a couple of superficial scratches on the limbs. Still has the original leather shelf/strike plate. It'll co...

Re: WTB Predator recurve
Hey tetanus, someone was selling one on here at the start of the year I think. May still be around. As they're a take down they're pretty cheap to get from the US as well, 3rivers quoted me something like $30 shipping.

Re: Postage from USA (and elsewhere) - comments and ideas?
I have seen mention of this on other posts and I have had cause to do fair bit of purchasing from abroad in the past few years including many archery and related items. Lately, the shipping costs from USA on Ebay and elsewhere (Europe, UK) seem to have doubled making many things out of reach once a...

Re: Advice on hunting boots
I assume you got the Nike SFB from that site you linked? How do you find the sizing goes? Palladium seem true to sizing charts but I use a wider fit where possible, are Nike OK there (often it seems Asian-made such as Adidas and Nike runners are from a narrow last when I try them)? It is difficult ...

Re: Broad heads of same weight fly diffrent ????
Hey beast,
If the total weight of the ribteks is greater you would expect the weakened spine shafts to hit a little to the right. What range are you shooting these groups? If it's 50m, no big deal. If it's 10m, something else must be going on.

You're right, there are still a couple of bows up there (maybe they missed the cull somehow) but I only looked a couple days ago and there were heaps of bows there. Now there are virtually none. All the more reason to use Ozbow's trade blanket in my opinion

In Victoria DSE rule with a bow Well, you learn something new every day  I went and checked Vic's regs and that's true for all deer except hog, chital and fallow. which is minimum 45#.
