Re: Proposed 2017 Trad shoots
As a pensioner who was unfortunate in life not to have access to mainline superannuation during most my working life. Yes i know I could have done something on my own initiative but things were quite different then and not just black and white decisions. However my point is this; many , many people ...

Re: How do you clever folk do stuff like....
Hi Dave, The bigger the bank balance the easier the task becomes because you can lash out with big amounts of cash to purchase specialised machinery to carry out the various tasks. ............It is mainly a process [ sometimes tedious] of sand and fit......... Unfortunately I am stuck with a bands...

Re: How do you clever folk do stuff like....
speaking for myself, with some of my designs I use a template to draw required curve, cut out and sand square, then match other piece to it, along with any narrow trim pieces I might use.It is mainly a process [ sometimes tedious] of sand and fit. It is important that it is an airtight fit as endeav...

Bad luck on missing that buck but I can understand your feelings about the young fellow nailing it. I am assuming he used a rifle?

Re: Phenolic
Agree with Daryl, essential that the surfaces of the phenolic be scuffed markedly with coarse grit . I use 40 grit but imagine 80 grit would be sufficient. I use smooth on as it is all I stock and does the job very well.

Re: A meeting of two crafts
Yeah blacktails are extraordinary even if its mostly 'bling' that generates the interest, nobody is going to re invent the wheel where bows are concerned. The laws of physics and the limitations of materials put paid to that! Re the decorative inlay , been thinking [dangerous] and really; assuming t...

Hey Forester!. Glad you enjoyed our shoot. We did try hard to put on a good shoot. Like all first efforts, few things need a little alteration for our next one next year.Mainly converging shooting lanes but nothing drastic.

Re: A meeting of two crafts
I think you are quite right in your surmising, and the two materials should be in 'simpatico' with each other, at least to the point where no real problems should arise concerning compatibility. This will give you a whole new ball game in adorning bows, and ensure you make very novel and exciting ri...

Re: Happy Camper
Thanks for the kind words fellas! Sabinus, I would imagine it does provide a little more mass to the riser and consequently absorb a little more of any 'unspent' energy not utilised by string, although its main use is cosmetic.

Re: A meeting of two crafts
that would be my only concern, the difference in thermal expansion and contraction between the organic wood structure and inanimate metal. however I suspect it would be minimal and present little or no problems IMO. Again I admire the workmanship that went into your creation and congratulate you on ...

yeah Rod it was an attractive wood in the riser. Shame the plank I got it from was full of checks and cracks, would have a made a lot of nice risers.
