My first longbow brumby...

G'day, I took this girl today as a "piggyback" kill from my mate's stallion that he'd shot with his compound; the idea is, if you push them hard enough by advancing straight up to them when the leader is down, they sometimes have a go at you or at least try to intimidate you from coming an...

:D G'day Bowdonkey! Glad you had a chuckle! All the best with your deer season over there! I'm currently testing and rigging up some camel arrows (laminated birch from Paul Jalon, an excellent arrowsmith to deal with) for the 70lb Hill Redman longbow - a lovely 850 grains or so, including the 190 gr...

Craig Ekin is an excellent person to deal with, and his workmanship on his bows is superb. A Hill-shooter from Victoria! You don't, per chance, shoot with Ben Maher, do you? If so, how's he going? I try my best to shoot my wonderful Hill Redman, and hopefully I'll christen it with a goat early next ...

Goats certainly are terrific fun, Coach! I was able to contact Randy Sparrow from the USA to get his camel photo and information again, and he gave me permission to show it off here: "I shot this young camel at a water hole on a property between Winton and Boulia..... I was using a Hoyt takedow...

I've taken the liberty of re-showing Pat Forrest's 2003 camel success here, and do hope that's not a drama. I suppose I'm very keen on this camel hunting business, and look forward to many more happy moments spent close enough to hear their grumbling tummies! It is a real hoot, hunting these dromeda...

Mr. Challacombe, do I recall correctly that Randy Sparrow wrote that he was hunting with you when he grassed his camel? Or have I got my wires crossed? Anyway, it was a heck of a joint where he shot his camel, in that it was a pig-ridden swamp, of all places, in Western Qld! To hunt both pigs and ca...

Also, for donkeys and camels with stickbow, based on what I've seen in the Simpson, the best way to hunt them would be to tackle the problem exactly how you would in a summertime hunt for goats - blinds at dams and troughs, with morning and evening being rush hour. Another thing I've learned from hu...

Yessir, the ribs are amazingly thick! If memory serves correctly, from the carcass I examined on my last desert trip, the ribs were a shade over two inches wide, and about three-quarters of an inch thick (maybe more), obviously in an oval shape. But, at least they're wet when the camel's upright, an...

G'day Ben, Actually, I remember reading your story about nailing a camel a few years ago, and I thought to myself, I must try that! Thanks for a good story! First of all, I must say that I get no points for a challenging stalk, or a stalk at all. Although I've stalked plenty of camels unsuccessfully...

Who's grassed a camel with their tradbow?

G'day, I'm curious as to how many have been fortunate enough to have knocked over a camel with their traditional pride-and-joy? I know that many're the camels that have been grassed by compound bows, but how many have been grassed by recurves, longbows, or selfbows? I was lucky enough to get one ear...

G'day James, Thanks for the kind words! I hope you've been having a blast getting the new HCA bow fired up, and well-done on dropping a buffalo, too. Anyway, I'm sure we'll save some pigs for you, for when you get up here permanently, as the pigs have more evasive talent than I have hunting talent! ...

G'day Graeme! I wonder if Australians are more inclined toward the adage of "Have more than thou showest; speak less than thou knowest"? I do know that, from browsing the Yankee Leatherwall, much of the comments there are enough to make one puke, but perhaps it is a cultural thing. So, sho...

Heavy Whispering Wind Arrows For Sale - SOLD!

Greetings! I have for sale an MTM Arrow-Plus Box containing twenty-one arrows made by Bob Burton of Whispering Wind Arrows in Montana. If you know your arrowsmiths, you'll know that Bob is one of the best, if not the best, in the game. These arrows were made at the start of this year. Eighteen of th...

One more thing: this bow has a small scratch on the edge of the bottom limb, about 1cm long. As soon as this happened, I fixed it according to the instructions in the manual, with a small, neat dab of super glue. This took place more than a year-and-a-half ago, and hasn't affected the bow's performa...

Black Widow take-down longbow for sale (sold)

G'day All, I'd like to buy a new recurve, but the Missus will shoot me if I go over-budget...so, sadly, I've decided to try to sell one of my Black Widow longbows. It is a PLV take-down model, built in mid-2005. It has the "talon" take-down system. It is 64" long, and draws 67#@28&quo...
