If your referring to Olympic style archery, the usually range anywhere from 26lb - 40lb ish depending on the archer. The bows are allot longer than hunting recurves which aides greatly the ability to hold steady.

Gaz, Mate, i was planning to be there but a week or two out I had a high speed off competeing in a downhill bike race and overstreched the shoulders AC joint tendons some.
