Beautiful bows Otis, you recon you'll have a go at making a business of it eventually? Any native timbers used?

Re: mossies and flies
Deet is what I find most effective but you need to constantly reapply because the sweat washes it off it comes in % concentrations 100% being the strongest, but I've seen the 100% stuff stain clothes and strip paint (I sometimes use the 100% stuff on clothes and 40-50% deet on skin for a more total ...

Re: looking after a trad bow
Yea this is a beauty to shoot. Only worry I had was that a lot of people were saying that the grip was too big. No problem for me and Chad was saying that the Bowyer Marc Moriez is looking at changing that a little now that he owns the company. Ah well all happy with this bow and damn good prices fo...

Re: looking after a trad bow
Sorry Jeff my photoshop wasn't letting me make it any bigger for some reason. I'll have a little play and see if I can get it any bigger. I bought this beauty after I foolishly ordered a custom job from Chad at recurves.com. The wait was 6months for a first bow so I was gonna get a samick but couldn...

Re: looking after a trad bow
Thanks Jeff,
I knew someone would want a nosey, wanted to post them before but was having issues.
Pretty happy with the bow, lovely smooth draw and although my technique still needs working on I can see the improvement from when I was using the old club bows.
Cheers

looking after a trad bow
Hi everyone, got myself a chek-mate falcon recurve, purpleheart riser, maple & black glass limbs. I was wondering if the timber needs any specific looking after or not, its a satin finish rather than a gloss.

Re: Man Vs Wild SBS
Not seen this new one but I always liked some of the stuff Ray Mears does. I remember a week he did once living along the coast of Scotland living off plants and shell fish and he had a video to give a video diary but that was it. Good practical stuff, not the sensational Steve Irwin stuff. I rememb...

Re: first points from rock.
They're fantastic! You'll have to fix them in place with grass tree resin too to give them that extra bit of authenticity. Usually get grass tree resin found around the trunk of the plants, smells a bit like frankincence when heated too.

Yea weavil, I do a lot of seed collecting for revegetation and I see a lot of these and some very bizarre looking weavils living amongst the Acacia seeds and if the seed is left long enough you can see the larvae boring into seeds. This guy looks fantastic, how did you find him?

but seriously though, use the system. I'm certain there is a law that requires property owners to take all appropriate means to prevent dangerous stuff (and probably includes animals) from causing harm to others. My mother in law is a barrister I'll ask her some day.

Re: damn bow stringer!??!?!?!?!
Thanks Hue,
I just bought a cartel one that has the sleaves for a fraction of the price. The string on the cartel is a bit bouncy so I'll swap it for the $25 string on the expensive, albeit useless stringer . Should be sweet!

Ok figured it, thanks longbow steve & kimall. Still slips a little, I think it might be a combination of the material its made from and the finish of the bow.

damn bow stringer!??!?!?!?!
Hi Folks, Ok I'm new to the scene and in the process of getting my gear together. I bought a bow stringer the other day, I wanted one with sleaves on both sides but they didn't have the one I wanted so I got one with a sleave on one side and a rubber saddle on the other (much more expensive too!!). ...

Good to hear about all those Goanna's. I hear that in some parts of the country the numbers of them are getting fewer and fewer.

Re: What did you think of Steve Irwin
I work in the conservation industry and I see people in this industry doing more good things in a single week with bugger all money compared to Irwin in his career. Although I recon Irwin has popularised Australian wildlife here and overseas I don't think that has really made much difference to cons...

I found a website in Canada that has in-stock checkmates for about $400 including shipping but I recon I'll get in trouble with Nadine Simon

Re: had a go at knapping
Other stones other than flint can be knapped to form axes or arrow heads. Quartz and quartzite that you find scattered throughout the goldfields could be a goer and is made from same stuff as flint. I'm a pom and back home I used to collect rocks as a kid and one thing we looked out for when hunting...

need/want a recurve
Hi everyone, Here is the deal, I'm new to the trad archery scene and I have ordered a chekmate from Chad Weaver in the US but the wait is 6months  so in the mean time I think I'll be needing something to keep me going. I'm spending up on the custom job so I don't want to break the bank simply...

New quiver
Ok so I'm new to this game, ordered all the small gear and still waiting for my bow from the US. Here is a quiver I just ordered from recurvebowshop.com based in Hungary, they have a nice selection of handmade trad quivers and pretty good to deal with too. This one was pulled in customs for a few da...
