oldest arrow heads 62,000yrs
saw this article about oldest arrow heads found in South Africa at about 62,000 years old! So could this mean that the bow travelled with the first out of Africa pioneers who settled Europe and Asia (and then Nth & Sth America?) Here is the link http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-1108...

bow poundage & draw length question.
something I've been wondering about for awhile is this. I have a 41# @ 28in draw while I'm only drawing 27in so obviously I'm not pulling 41#. Is there a calculation to work out roughly what poundage I am acctually pulling? Done a google and nothing obvious was coming up, thought a few folk on here ...

Axefanatic, look at the top picture. Those leaves are definitely not she-oak, she-oaks have really hair like narrow cylindrical segmented leaves we in the botany business call cladodes. The grain looks somewhat similar to a Banksia's we get along the coast in Victoria.

Re: No one with half a brain would vote Greens would they ?
all these carbon offset charges and taxes (and brace yourself if the greens get any kind of say in the senate) where do they go, who benefits from these? hope it's not some general in south america for supposedly planting forests over there:) Depends what offset provider a company decides to use. Re: No one with half a brain would vote Greens would they ?
As for species like crayfish and crabs, I have no doubt that marine parks would give bottom species a lot of protection, however I can say the same about pelagic fish species as they move constantly. Recreational fishermen don't target crustations to any meaningful extent. Spot on and this was ment...

Re: No one with half a brain would vote Greens would they ?
Mick, some of what you say has a valid point I keep asking why the Greens and the Labour Party have totally dismissed detailed management practices as a means of monitoring and protecting the fisheries, but alas, without any success, yet to me, this is the only logical way of doing it. Locking up hu...

Looseplucker is correct, the cod fisheries in Europe have all but collapsed, with the new cod alternative Hake being next in line, even a sub-species of Skate in Europe is on the brink of extinction due to over fishing. I'm all for marine reserves with research showing that when properly planned the...

Poor guy gets to miss his summer and spend it in rainy Victoria! Actually probably won't be too different from a good old Brit summer to be honest at least he gets to go to Queensland.

Hi Moreton, did you get the Varios from http://www.bowandarrow.de/ or direct from the manufacturer http://www.eternal-archery.de/ ? bowandarrow seems to have only 3 styles of fletch template available but the supplier seems to have more, I was looking for something like traditional or pope & you...

Nice work!! Never thought of that either. Like you said in the previous thread that its no point paying for something thats been processed for food when a dog chew will do. Just hope the restaurant managers who use the human grade tendons aren't reading this too !!

last time I spoke to Mike he supplies his own from his own deer not from another supplier and all animals are processed on the property. Not sure on his prices but he has a premium market with the chinese community in Melbourne so might be why he's so expensive. No point flogging it for less if he c...

Ray Mears is the man!! Back when I lived at home in the UK I watched his shows religiously, his documentaries put rubbish like Man vs Wild to shame. One of my favourites was when they choppered him onto a remote western isle for a week armed with a camcorder and he lived off the land eating shellfis...

Re: Master English Warbowyer to visit Australia
Leigh,
put another on the list. A mate of mine who's not into archery but into woodcrafts is really interested.
Will the arrow making, arrow heads and horn nocks still be included? Not sure I've eaten enough spinach to be firing a warbow just yet but the making of will be good.

Re: Postage for a longbow from the US
One of the problems I had when getting my last bow was that UPS were refusing to take a 60" bow because they said they were a restricted weapon in Aus the supplier tried three times with different offices before going via another courier. Its sure a crazy process in North America.

about 1400 Waltron by the last count. Wonder if Silver Wattle is good for selfbows, grows nice and straight in the Otways and in Gippsland.

This is the one I used and was really easy to follow for a beginner like myself http://poorfolkbows.com/flemish1.htm. But I found the serving instruction at the end of the build along a bit confusing so had a look at several youtube vids to get a better idea.
